My name is Charlie and come from a small Island in the Mediterranean Called Malta. I am not entirely new to Volkswagens but I am new to this forum. Hello Everyone!!

Friend of mine told me to check the site out... All I can say is very useful!! I am about to tow home my 1970 Westy. This will be my second Westy and 3rd bus all together. This one will however be my first restoration project. Wish me luck.

Hello all. I've been trying to decide upon a second car (for fun / recreation) and up until now I thought that would be a 2wd econobox to cage and run as a stock class rally racecar. Well, Why buy basically a manual version of what I already have when it will take a few years to afford to race. So, that idea is shelved, so now my potential car performance can be unlimited, and modifications are free. Well somehow I ended up taking the time to research the type 1 VW as a future project (unemployed right now) and good lord! Goes like stink and performance mods abound and are cheap
Once I saw videos of a baja bug putting 4x4s to shame I was sold. I've spent the last few days completely glued to these forums and online catalogs.

I have a 5 page word document of copy pasted technical information and guidelines, although that means some contradictions.

Since finally making up my mind about wanting to work on VWs and their engines (Oh, I forgot to mention I am currently attending school for welding, CNC machining and automotive mechanics) my job-hunt has gone into overdrive! I have a goal, its written down, it's planned out.

Did I mention how incredibly ideal the VW is looking to be for what I really want from a car? Offroadable, raceable, roadside repairable, economical, FUN!

Hi,
I'm the proud owner of a 64 beetle, she is my baby. At the moment she is sitting under a car cover waiting for me to come home from Iraq. When I left her she was having starter problems, but I'm confident I can fix that on my own. I do have some other issues I plan on posting about. I look forward to chatting with other VW lovers.

just about to buy a 1964 Baja. I am going to see the car tomorrow. What are the important ?'s I should ask and is there a standard checklist?


I am really excited about this car. I rode in the cubby hole with my sister as a child in the 70's. Great memories of our family bug. I know the Baja will be different but then again so am I?

Welcome to the STF. The worst problem is rust.
