Central WA Baja

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Are you going to do a full polish on the engine and transaxle? Geez, what a combo... (read intense jealousy and sarcasm into the question too?)

No specs yet. I sent a deposit check off to Dave Folts Trans. Once they get the check we will start the process of figuring out the gear ratios. I chose them pretty much based on price. (not gunna post price here...call them for a quote or PM me) All of the first 50 of these Weddle's are being built "In house " at Weddle. So the trans would be the same no matter who sells it. Yea there is the service after the sale to think about, but again, I think Weddle will have their hands in that end of things on these first 50 as well. Dave has been around the racing world for a long time and he is who built the bus box for the supercharged Toyota rail in our group.

With that said I also talked with Don at Dons Bus Box in AZ as well as Mark at Marks Sand Trans in Portland,Or. Both of them are running Honda's in Multiple cars which helped with this whole thing. I would recommend both of them highly...And will probably try to shoot some parts sales Marks way as I go forward.

And Don had some nice things to say about the AZ Honda guys (Npetric and KrautnRice) that hang around here? I just decided not to try to figure it all out on my own.

I have to call Howe today...I have a pump already...need to see if it will still work. They make a bracket for the Vtec, I may just need a new pulley hopefully.

Thanks for the pics Busk.
Why the adjustable support struts on the top of the trans?
Did you do a cable shifter or a solid linkage? I will be doing the solid linkage and probably a ProAm or Fortin shifter on mine.
Also I am thinking about using bushings instead of solid mounting? Not real sure if that is a good idea or not yet?

I would guess it is for ease of install and removal. Busk can I get you to start a Thread on your Baja, really would like to see more of it. I have lots of questions for both of you!

i made the top mounts like that so its easy to remove, no fighting the bolts to get them out, ect. plus the parts were pretty cheap to make them like that. i use a solid rod for the shift shaft with a u-joint at the trans and the shifter. i use the same shifter i used with my bus box, an empi trigger shifter. im using the linkage that weddle sells that moves the shift rod to the front of the trans. as far as mounting i always solid mount everything but a dense bushing would work as well. this probably goes without saying but just make sure you mount the motor and tranny the same way, both solid mounted or both with bushings.

great build by the way. looks really awesome
