Made a lil progress cleaning up heads today. I am waiting on flywheel to be resurfaced and need to order a new pressure plate and clutch disk. The Kennedy Stage 1 and 4 puck was toast, I am debating between Stage 1 or Stage 2 with 6 puck disk, any input appreciated.

When I looked into the 4-puck vs. 6-puck disc several years ago I was told that the 4-puck was stronger but no slipping of the clutch, e.g., fully engaged or not engaged! The 6-puck was better for the street as it allowed a bit more mistakes being made with the leg and clutch pedal.

I do run a 4-puck on the sand.

For what it is worth.

I am still trying to decide what to do for pressure plate and clutch disc, my street buggy is fairly light(around 1200 lbs with driver) and I want the transaxle to last so a lil slippage could be a good thing, so that probably rules out any type of puck. Is anyone running the CB dual friction disc and if so do you like it?
Thanks

Is that one similar to the Copperhead? I've run that clutch and loved it, right up until about 200hp. After that, it definitely protected the transmission  It was a great driving setup. Very smooth engagement, but also seemed to have good holding power. I'll probably go that route for my bus, but my power goals are not very ambitious.

From what I read about the copperhead disc it is supposedly hard on the flywheel, so I ordered the Centerforce dual friction disc from CB part #1301. I should be below 200hp so hopefully it will work for me with a Kennedy stage 2.

I had the centerforce on mine for a while. I think like the copper head it held to about 200hp with a stage 2. Super nice driving.

Wow, has been a while. I finally got things together, the Kennedy stage 1 with the dual friction disc and resurfaced German flywheel looks good. starts slipping at 234ft/lbs according to torque wrench, actually required 0 shims to achieve. Hope to get it fired up and cam break in done in a few weeks as long as I can get a few customer projects done.

That's awesome! I hope that clutch holds for you. I had to go to a black magic disk and its much less enjoyable to drive with it.

I finally got the 1776 fired up and cam break in done this evening while we are having some warmer weather. I can get it moved out of shop this weekend and start tuning it when spring gets here. Feels so good to have her running again, it has been over 10 years since she has been on the road.

TAH-DAH!

That's got to be a great feeling for sure. Ten Years is a long time for it to sit so keep track of the oil and pressure, carb(s) and ignition for age related just sitting around problems.

I've got to do the same thing myself but not 10 years but more like 4. Alot of stuff we used now days aren't the same thing, oil for example is one as is fuel. Theoi; I used to use name was sold and it is a different oil ASSY now.

This buggy sat without a motor for over 10 years, I did a refresh on the motor along with different cam (FK7, was W100 and AA500 heads, was stock heads) was a great feeling to get her fired up, the grandkids will be excited to finally get to ride on the street, they are 7 and 3 years old. I am actually looking forward to getting the tune dialed in and cranking up the boost. Many thanks for all the help I have received from the awesome folks on this forum.

Well done! 10 years is a long time! One more reason to look forward to spring!
