Re: Roll call! Introduce yourself....
My name is Phil, I'm in San Diego. I just bought a 1971 411. I've been searching for a bus to restore for my surfing vehicle. I found the 411 on Craigslist last week and thought it was too cool. I like things that you don't see every day. I've always had Type 1's and really enjoy building hot motors. I've built several sand rails and bugs over the years. But I'm planning on staying stock on this for milage sake. It will be my first Type 4 and am planning on a full engine and trans rebuild. I'll have lots of questions as I go. The car has been garaged for a long time, no rust that I can see, and a straight body. I've been researching here for a few days, what a great forum!

I'm Trisha. My husband, Andy, bought me a 1971 411 for Christmas. We are in Mounds View, MN and already active in VW club here. Drove it back on a snowy, icy day about an hour away from home. We haven't had a chance to work on it yet, since it's been so cold. I'm looking forward to driving her, Sammy, to all the car shows this Summer and documenting the renovation!

Howdy all,
I've been lurking here a couple of weeks now. I have a 74 type 1 and a 70 type 1. Both have been back dated.

Hi all, my name is John I live in Windhoek, Namibia.
I am a vw aircooled airhead, love them to bits and pieces
I currently own a 67 Split bus a 68 bay window and now recently a 412 variant. I am seriously looking forward to the cursing and ripping out of hair which lies ahead of me, rebuilding this one of a kind to its no so former glory.
It is difficult to get parts from where I live, I think there are about 5 412 and 1 411 ive seen in all my time, but in south Africa is a bit easier.
I will be using your heads as a type 4 encyclopedia, I thank you in advance.
Don't neglect this site guys, I see its been quite for sometime, bring it back.

Re: Roll call! Introduce yourself....
Time to reintroduce myself. About 6 months ago I casually mentioned an interested in a nearly rust free 412. Well, now it's home! I started really looking at my '73 Variant and decided that with the work it needed on the body, and the scarcity of body panels, that it was going to be a better idea to find a more solid candidate than pour thousands into bodywork alone. That said, I present my newest acquisition, a '74 Variant. I have plans for it of course. I like the look of the sport wheels, and I have a set from my '73 that I will be swapping onto it. They are Porsche 914 ones, and the offset works.
After that, it will just be general clean up and repair. Stop some of the surface rust on it and save for a paint job. Work on the interior and also add back the wood grain panels.

Re: Roll call! Introduce yourself....
My name is Dave and have residences in Media, PA & Vero Beach, FL. I am a retired wholesale & retail service manager after working with VW, Porsche & Audi for 44 years. Have owned numerous VW's & English sports cars and a few Model A Fords. One of the VW's was a 412 Wagon. Great machine that pulled a light weight pop up camper for several years. Currently own a '69 Ghia coupe and have rebuilt the suspension & brake systems. Previous 7 year owner replaced floor pans and rebuilt upper section of the early 70's engine. Will never be a show car due to some not professional front body panel replacements but it is a great fun driver. I'm about to purchase a '72 Type 2 engine and plan to rebuild the upper section and install in the Ghia. Not sure if I want to convert to upright cooling or do some engine compartment mods and fabricate a proper cooling intake system. I may have posted similar info on another STF section so pardon the duplication if so. Any comments or advice both pro & con is appreciated.

Hello all!
I'm Tuomas from Finland and I've a -74 412 which I bought about an year ago, basically just for fun and to fill the hole in the collection: No Type 4's earlier. A lot of new stuff with this car so a good investment for me.
Also I can recognize fellow type 4 owners from other forums (Hello Lahti411 & Lars S & Raygreenwood & others), so almost had to join here too.
Mine is originally Swedish police car, 4 door sedan and has an automatic gearbox with 2-liter (incorrect) CJ- engine, double PSDIT40s. Very rare model around here and automatic is even more rare. it should have 1800cc AN-engine and I managed to buy one, but that's a project engine, needs some work.
I put an short introduction of myself into general introduction too, there's a pic of the 412 and link to other vehicles: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... &start=481

I had the pleasure of importing the first 411 into the USA early Jan 1971, as I returned from 3 years in Germany with the 3rd Inf. Division.
Bought my first vw beetle in 1969 while in Germany.
now restoring a 70 Ghia, body off and preparing it for a 2.0 T4.

While I am shortly going to start being more active here on the STF like I used to be.....especially in the 411/412 forum....this is a great crowd even though its not as active as it used to be. Also you should frequent the 411/412 forum on the Samba.
