R-Dub the more I think about it the more I like the idea of putting everyTHING from the bus under the bucket.
I would cut the torsion bars and everything aft of them from the bus and weld to the thing. In addition to that I would use the heavy duty front beam to match up wheel bolt patterns and width. You might need widened fenders but not much else to make it all fit under the 181 body.
Wheels are hard to find with the exception of Mercedes and VW aftermarket. The front beams are tough tough tough.
Look around on this site. I picked up a lot from it when planning to install the T-4 stuff on mine. The Tech Stuff and Pics show a lot that are busses but you have to just see it as being on the Thing. The suspension stuff is what you need to look at most or just make a Baja Bus. Later. Bob

I bought a complete 79 bus for $100 with a sour motor. I have two sets of bus wheels. The bus has front disc brakes. I got the parts..

R-Dub a couple of changes have taken place now.
1. The trip to Phoenix has been postponed until spring due to health related issues. Now off. The car still needs to get to Phoenix but Im looking at the month of May at this point and hopefully my health will have improved enough to pull it off.
2. I have decided that blues music is back on my agenda. I have replaced some of the CDs I gave you but am asking that you make and send me copies of Son House and Jimmy Reed if you will please. Thanks and take care. Bob

I know this thread started a while back. I will be traveling for work this year for the Firefighter Combat Challenge and have opted not to fly but to drive one of our 1974 THINGs.
www.firefighterchallenge.com is where you can see the cities I will be at for the next seven months.
I will be driving from Anchorage Alaska.

Wow!!! That is so cool. We leave from our Colorado Mountain Dome Mar 18 until sometime in April for our other home on the Sea of Cortez in Baja. We also prefer to drive and since we will continue on down to Miramar on Ganzaga Bay this time we will run VW off-road...
