I am going to make this thread a sticky as the type 4 into type 3 conversion is not well documented in an easy to locate post. I don't think even our human search engine "David58bug" has this info.

Anyone finding a previous thread about the T4 into T3 please add a link to this thread.

Please note that this linkage set up was design by CSP for IDF with tall intake manifolds. The bellcrank is flipped in my installation. It is also does not provide WOT. If you are still interest here is information plus other parts required if using Weber DCNF's and short intakes.

The linkage is from CSP, it is there Type-4 Bellcrank Linkage for Porsche Fan System
http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/shop2/sh ... 8589717730

Purchase from: http://www.classicandspeedparts.com/ located in So Cal.

Also use Carburetor offset linkage arms from Gene Berg item GB 406A, http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=835

Plus CB Performance item 3396 (2” Heim joint extension) to clear spark plugs wires, http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=544

STICKY....

For one way of doing the linkage that's "guaranteed" to fit and work right...
(OK, OK, yes, it's DIY, but it can be EASY DIY)

You'll likely never buy a linkage again.
...Unless someone starts making these...

A very informative post.

I'm about to embark on a Type 4 swap into my '68 Fastback.

As my rear valance was hacked by the PO, (was fitted with a WBX), I will be making a custom air intake out of fibreglass so that the fan can suck air in...

As I can't find a suitable 411/412/914 shroud, I will just drill the hole for the timing plug on the top of the Kombi shroud that I have. It should work

a few more pics...

I remembered a camera so took a few more detailed shots.

you can see the bellows, t3/t2(t4) hanger mount adapter and also the solid mounted inner engine mounts.

Her's a altenative conversation off a type 3 with IRS
the big diffrence is that the engine and trans hangs only in engine hanger and the trans mounts
Image
Image
observ the M8 rubber mounts
the engine is hanged with OEM rubber rubber mounts + the extra rubber monunt and solid side mounts insted off type 3 mounts

Image

Image

Image

The trans is a 914 with bug@5speed nosecone

Image

The body off the car have no modifications for the conversatinon

Nice, looking to do this with the Piles old 1700 in a few weeks in a `73. (Will keep the CIS injection, I already installed CIS on the stock 1600DP in the T3 a couple of years ago)

Now to find a cooling intake adapter...
