And noticed that i have almost a tenth of a second more of clutch slip on the starting line because of the increased torque.
What did you do to your turbo today?

Speaking of water injection, I found a good resource for us....
http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com/index.html
For $260 this one of the cheaper "nice" kits I have found. If there is interest I could try and set up a group buy?

Of this one for $370.

It is all self contained and has a 2 gallon reserve.

On another note, I want to turbo my buggy, it will be a megasquirted 1915. Beacuse I already have the parts from another motor.
Would a 40 trim t3 work pretty good for that?

Hey Everyone,
I found these two Items at the Portland swap Meet and couldn't pass them up.
So I guess I have now begun the turbo mod.
Turbo is a IHI RHB5 form a subaru 80's or early 90's
Weber IDF 44 Carb
Has 32mm venturis
135 mains
160 airs
F-7 Emulsions
65 idles
90 F5 pump
I hope to get turbo emulsion tubes and either build my own header or modify an existing one to try it.
Also want to boost refernce the mechanical fuel pump like I think Mike Thompson mentioned.
Engine is a 1600 dual port with dual kadrons in a Safari Dune Buggy.
I have been driving this for 2 1/2 years now.
It's nothing fancy but it gets me where I'm going and is fun to drive.
Will be ordering The books from CB Performance and possibly turbo emulsion tubes within a few days.
Thanks for all the excellent reading You people have posted. I have learned alot just reading the last year or so. I hope to contribute my joys and sorrows as I work thru this.
My Plans.....
Turbo Emulsion tubes
Mod rings?
Build or modify a header
Use existing mechanical pump modified for boost reference
Starting out with 6 to 8 pounds boost. Probably the limit of this turbo.

Hey Mike. I've seen your car several times at the hows, awesome car! 10mm studs are a good thing to have on a turbo engine, but several have been fine with 8mm studs. I run 10mm just to be safe...mbugz60 wrote:I am getting ready to yank the DLI blower off of my 2387 and bolt up a drawthrough turbo. Will I need to change the head studs from 8 to 10mm? The heads held up fine with 7psi on the DLI. I am looking to boost about 10-12psi on the turbo.
This is my first time dealing with a turbo, I am looking for all of the help and advice I can get.

Clone bug, you can weld up the collector , cut off the top of it that bends to the muffler. Weld on a t3 flange. if you turbo has a built in waste gate your in business if not weld in a flange to add a waste gate to the header. It will set a bit high but it is built for less then 10$ i buy t3 flanges for 5$. welding is free if you have it. here is a photo of mine

Seabee,
It is not a t3 flange. It is a three bolt funny triangle but specific to a Subaru as far as I can tell by my research.
I prefer to not cut up this header in case I need to go back to it. There is one more semi local swap meet coming up and I hope to locate a cheap header that I can modify to work. If not, then I will either cob something together or buy a cheap one. Although prices on everthing seemed to have jumped in the last few months.
A friend has a header kit with leftovers bends that I can get cheap also, that is another option.
I did price flanges for the heads and tubes. Add in a couple for the turbo and I came up with over a 100 bucks without the welding and straight pipe.
I could just as well buy a ready built one for a little more.
Although..... I do have a collector laying around I can use.
What kind of tubing would you use to build a header?
Standard exhaust pipe seemed reallly thin to me.
Would .095 11/2 tubing be too heavy???

Well today i moved the intercooler. Not sure if it is the best spot may get warm from turbo?? yet it is still just as close to it as before.

Mike Thompson,
I have read your build and posts with great interest due to the fact you have the same engine specs.
I have spent soo much time reading that I can't recall where and what info I found.
I am particularly interested in the stock pump mod you spoke of and plan on getting the Turbomania book to read up on that.
I picked up the parts in the pic for less than $100 so I couldn't pass it up.
I originally was looking for a holley 390 cfm 6299 like MOLooker talked of but in a year of looking never found one.
From reading and thinking it seems that blowthru is the better way to go, as I didn't need to get a carbon seal turbo. That and carb icing will be less of a problem. Of course falling into these parts at the swapmeet pretty well sealed the deal.
I am on the prowl for a centermount intake as I speak and so far looking at new, the aluminum centermount low rise manifold CB Performance has is the one I would choose if I can't find a used one.
As far as max boost I am not sure what the blowoff is set at on this turbo so will have to do a checking on it. I am sure tuning wll take some serious work and time to get right.
Thanks to all on this board that take the time to post info so I can learn.

I have a 40 trim though
It was intended for my 1600, but that came out to make room for the bigger motor.
I was hoping it wouldn't be to small for a 1915

It's not that it's too small for the engine, it's that at higher boost pressures you're likely to see much higher intake temps due to being out of the small compressor's effeciency range. It'll probably spool like a SOB, though.
How's the project Megasquirt coming? Hadn't seen any updates at Franklin's site.
I think the next turbo I'll try on my 1915 will be that odd diesel turbo I found on a Merc in the junkyard; it's a KKK, but it's got a Garrett flange, with internal wastegate.

I pulled the motor for paint, thats why there hasn't been any updates.
But today i dropped my turbo header off for ceramic coatings at performance coatings. And shot the poop with my engine builder for awhile. We are both building buggy's so we where compairing notes =)
It looks like I can get 18lbs out of the 40 trim, I think i'm ok with that
More with less rpm's. A 50 trim would allow for alot more rpm.
