while I'm on, some more pics ive sorted out from my messy collection, here's the flywheel being fixed to the beautiful OKRASA crank with 5 dowels and Ahendorp shanked bolts,ImageImageCase with lifter bore bushes for T1 cam, lifter are lubalobe lightweights,Imagesetting deck height to positive plus the shim for maximum compression with longer con rods.Imageshowing 98mm OKRASA bores and 10mm head bolts, forged 98mm pistons with blutac for clearance checks with the longer con rods.Image
even the case nuts need clearancing for the 98mm sleeves. case is a 1.9 with the one peice no 1 main.ImageCarburettor type ports as fitted at this time, turbo ports are smaller.Imagemanifolds for carbs being match ported nice and course, no bull polishing. i use sleeves on the studs to locate the manifolds in preference to dowels, these are German heads, the AMC heads are excellent and are better in some ways, less porous in the inlets and exhaust portsImage Turbo con rods are british made Farndon, ive run the stock wasser cranks at 385 english h.p at 7000 rpm with no problems other than the flys came off in the early days, but i had on 8" sticky slicks, so fair enough. more later gentlemen.. regards Johnny.

Heres a clip of the wasser bug beating up a lightweight track day Porsche, he tried to bully me while i was warming things up, much more to come from it yet, its still a bit new and tight, but is showing promise, much fun day it was, with over 60 trouble free laps of the Brands hatch circuit......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kllTdrIY ... re=related

Do you still have this engine?

I'm enjoying my 2316cc 80x96 in my Vanagon.

Steve, yes, its having it easy and going well, i just leave her in top gear lol
i could do with another 50 hp to catch the front runners, as im stuck in about 4/5 position, in front of the main pack, but i have a pair of 200 hp 500kg minis to catch....they are very very quick and well driven...

Lovely looking engine! So this was a kit you used to be able to buy off the shelf? I've heard the name before but never knew exactly what it was.
Found myself at Think Automotive last week quite by chance. What an amazing place for fittings and hoses etc. The guy behind the counter was so knowledgable on thread sizes.

Yes, Ahendorp where the European distributors, the OKRASA kit was comprehensive and consisted of the 82mm crank, 98mm bore kit with forged pistons and h/d thick wall wrist pins with proper retainers , special h/d head stud kit, 44mm big valves and special seat inserts for the heads, all the bearings and seals required and assembly data etc. they also made a 6 cylinder engine case and the build kit for it. all hens teeth now.
Yes, think automotive are old skool no doubt, i dont like internet only type dealers for proto type building, its good to see what you want to purchase actually on the table and to talk tech face to face, sadly, bricks and mortar firms cant compete with the face less ones, so, yes, theye stood the test of time, about 1970 they would have started trading from the place they're at even now.

Must have cost a fortune! What sort of year are we talking here? Sounds like it would be hard to get replacement parts now.

yes, it was not cheap but i cant remember the exact invoice cost, it was bought in 1985 and i seem to remember £3,500.00 PS, top quality tho, the motor was built up for turbo use and never used for many reasons and various rule changes to the sport i was doing at the time, they were prosperous years in the uk than  lol. original spares are hard to find but turn up from time to time on 'interweb, plus pistons and liners could be made to order, i have some spares, but a major engine blow up would be the end of it. technology has moved on and we can now use a T1 stoker crank if necasary, and valves are cheap enough, i have those made here in the uk. regards BBB.
