It's one of these:

Our hydraulic park lock is designed to be installed in the main brake line that runs to the back of the car, Simple to install and easy to use. Just push the brake pedal down, Push in the button on the park lock, Let off the brake pedal. And the rear brakes are locked. To release simply tap the brake pedal and the park lock releases.

I did a quick search and found this on the first page but I am pretty sure it is incomplete.

Every day I strive to learn something new....just like the old adage goes....

Today ?

I learned (2) things - so it's a bonus day <LOL>

First....I learned that yes - an assembled title vehicle in Michigan does require a parking brake...(Michigan form TR-54)...

Second....I learned that I do have a parking brake !

Whether it works or not remains to be seen when I get everything back together....

I had never given two thoughts to what the thing was....

Thanks again, Dan
Umm.... Hydraulic lock (line lock) is not legal in most states for parking/e-brake.... DOT pretty much stipulates E-brake (parking brake) had to be independent system... In other words independent of hydraulic system...

Not wanting to argue...and luckily I already have a title so most of this is a moot point...

And maybe - as Lee stated....if there was to be an accident that was result of the parking brake issue the insurance company may try to find a way to get around paying the claim...

But....this form....needed to get an assembled vehicle titled : https://www.michigan.gov/documents/TR-54_38480_7.pdf

states "parking brake"....I guess it depends on the inspecting officer...

This is not going to be a daily driver...maybe to the store to pick up some groceries once in a while...but mostly..

We're looking for a cabin near our sand dunes here in Michigan...I want to drive the buggy too and from the dunes without have to trailer it etc..

That's all...

And really.....I just want to I.D. the rotors and get some new hubs.

Thanks again, Dan

I dunno about the legal issues of a Park-Lock, but I do know that they usually fail within a few years of install. If you decide to use it someday, be sure you carry a line wrench to crack open the brake bleeders to release it after it gets stuck. About 100 yards from my shop there are 2 of them that I removed and threw as far as I could.
