When is the next outing Mitch? I know you were looking at testing around the time of the Mint, you planning on racing anytime soon?

Well I got the new motor built with more compression and a bigger camshaft. It got the 20 minute cam break in after much fiddling to get the heads and valve train to fit properly. Problem now is that it won't idle. I've checked and rechecked everything including valve timing and have come up with a possible problem. I think the intake valves are closing too late killing vacuum. I slotted the cam gear bolts holes for adjustability so I'm going to pull the oil pump and advance the cam 4 degrees from spec and that should give me enough low end and cure the idle problem. Testing will be immediately after Next race will most likely be in Lucerne next month with MORE.

Well that didn't work. Still won't idle. More tuning in the works. I don't have any pics worth posting. I'll try to get some when I go out testing next time. I won't be able to show much detail because I can't reveal race secrets. Sorry.

Do you have too much cam to try a vacuum test (air leaks in the system)? Have you tried to do a cylinder pressure test (bad valve to seat, push rods problems, rocker geometry. etc.)? Just the basic obvious/common checks when a bigger cam change is done.

I was initially focused on the carb although it was working excellent on the motor that blew up in February. I have taken it apart 4 times trying to figure out why it won't adjust. Their going to go back there and look into it again. The idle circuit is clear. I'm thinking idle air bleed.

The reason I asked about the other things is over the years those things seem to be common problems that pop up and take so long to find.
One of my Del carbs regularly plugs in the air idle-circuit so it is tear the one off, carb cleaner and air then reassemble, adjust the two together then connect the linkage... a pain in the no-no! When I bought them (used) I was told that the left one had had a tendency to do that since new which is why I got such a good deal on them. The next trip down will be in part to blow the circuit out again.
Hope your problem turns out to be something simple.

Lee, unfortunately I won't be able to look at it for a few days. I'm flying up to Oregon this morning. The new shop is getting concrete floor so I'm going to go watch. Oh and write the check too.

yes I'm excited to move in. Pole building has been up since December. We've been waiting for the ground to thaw so the slab can be poured.
