After using Jake's 9550, I'm really a believer in the whole dual-pattern thing.
The spread in spec from 86 to 86a is a fairly big one.
I could see that running nice and cool, especially if the exhaust the OP ran wasn't the greatest..


Isn't the 119 supposedly a lot harder on lifters, etc. than it's specs would have you believe?
IIRC, that was one of those off-road grinds made for super snappy low-end at the expense of valvetrain life...

All Webcams are "billet" cams.
So are everyone elses.

"Billets" can be cast too, its a marketing word.
(this is other than the $$$ 9xxx alloy steel billets used on custom roller cams)

The only significant difference is Web nitrides and coats their cams, which does make a big difference.

Those are probably custom ground cams that people returned or didn't finish paying for or something.
Web will grind you anything you like.
(Except for certain combos+tweaks that were/are one of Jakes custom grinds, hes a bigger customer than you are)

I had them do a custom regrind on a stock WBX cam, 86/stock 1600 DP (Miller cycle) I have yet to actually run.

Reasonable too, add $50 to the regrind price.. Go through a distributor, they won't do custom direct, and they can only put a limited set of smaller grinds on a factory regrind, and it infers a smaller base circle by definition.

The 86B/163 makes me wonder if its a typo, that's backwards from the duration split you would typically want on a T4, and not enough extra intake duration for a useful Atkinson/Miller cycle setup.

A 163/86B@105LC would rock but would also need dual springs, want big valves/ports/ITBs and at least 9:1 static CR, and given that pull like a truck from 2500 to >7K.

Here are some dyno charts of an engine that is aprox yours. I could only use max 94mm pistons so I compensated with different crank length. I know this changes things but this is just to give you an idea. I also guess on your exhaust size, but that changes things too.

IMHO the web 218 cam is the best. if you overlay the two images of the 218 and 163. You will see that it has more usable torque.

is the 218 a t1 pattern?
Web can put a T1 profile on a T4 blank but it will require T1 lifters in most cases.

The difference between the 218 and 163 would be lost in the noise.

If going that far go with the 163/86B@104.
T4 typically benefit from some ex side extra duration.
The 163 requires dual springs anyway.

Not sure it ill be worth it without reworked heads and a much higher powerband target.
(it will be really scootin at 4500 RPM though, just hold it until 6500 at least for max effect)

What did you use for head flow numbers?
A set of bone stock 1700 T4 heads flow ~160 CFM @.500 with 39mm intake valves.

Many "performance/big valve" T1 heads don't.

Just long overdue update. Engine is assembled, with all the parts I mentioned in the beginning, started last year. Here is a short video. Exhaust is just for the starting purpose, actual one will be made next week. The smoke is coming out of the old heat exchangers.

So what cam did you end up going with and how is it performing? I'm looking to put a 2056 in my split camper and thinking that 86a/86 may be a good cam?

The cam is Web 86. Still don't have any real feedback cause the car is in the following state at the moment.

That webcam 86 is nice! tons of torque down low and in the daily driving RPM range.
