The Porsche 14mm studs can be had up to 4" long... from ARP IIRC,
...And the beauty of the hubcentric arrangement is everything centers on the hub, not the studs, they just have to be reasonably close to perfect, but as you already have holes, making them a bit bigger ~accurately is trivial, even by hand...
I made up hubcentric hubs on my T3 for out back with the std VW hubs. Big difference on smoothness.
(The fronts were hubcentric from the factory)
Wheel spacers...whats your take on them?

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Yup. Not proud of it, but I'm using stacked hubcentric spacers on the back of my trike...the bolt-on kind, not pass-throughs - so yes, I DO have 15 lugnuts per wheelPiledriver wrote:...the beauty of the hubcentric arrangement is everything centers on the hub...

They are coming out of the closet.Marc wrote:Yup. Got new 16" tires on Porsche rims and ran out of time to fit 944 disc brakes before Sturgis so I just switched to 5x130 drums & hubs on my Squareback brakes, which yielded about 1¾" too much backspace. I've had it over 100 MPH and there's not even a hint of runout.

Re: Wheel spacers...whats your take on them?
Not really hard per say, just more work then I want to do right now with my minimal available time to prep before the trip at Christmas. I am already kinda bummed as it is that I had to tear the axles down to get the hubs out. And as far as the making the holes bigger by hand...not with all these parts. Right now the lugs take material every time any part is slid over them, that's the tolerance we are talking about with everything, the rotor hats, the spacers, the wide 5 adapter plate all of them are basically a light push fit on the hubcentric and the lug holes are that close as well and I like that as I really doubt it will stay that way with the pounding this stuff all takes.Piledriver wrote:...And the beauty of the hubcentric arrangement is everything centers on the hub, not the studs, they just have to be reasonably close to perfect, but as you already have holes, making them a bit bigger ~accurately is trivial, even by hand...
I actually found some Hummer H3 studs that are probably going to work. The knurl is .07mm (12.80 vs 12.73) larger so that's pretty dang close and should still press in I think. I should know tomorrow, as I had to order them in.

If the fit's too loose and the studs spin, you can build them up a bit with judicious use of brazing rod.

Re: Wheel spacers...whats your take on them?
Just make sure they aren't from EMPI, I bought some EMPI studs (I know... but they weren't listed as EMPI) for my first pass and the knurl shaved right off when I pressed them in... Ended up with some Dormans from the FLAPS, which oddly seem very decent quality.
I hit all the mating bits with anti-seize to prevent things from all corroding together as one, it already needs some help coming apart due to tight tolerances.(not quite gear puller time but assist with a hammer needed)
This includes the hubcentric center of the wheels... They need a good kick and a wiggle to get them free.

Yeah the studs I ordered are from Dorman. So hopefully we are good there as i am running out of days to make stuff happen fast. JT and I leave for Laughlin on Wed for the Rage race. Then we are only home for a few days next week prior to loading up and heading south for the desert.
