Re: Turbo problem
My turbo was a Garrett GT35r. I thinks I have the problem resolved. It was an oiling issue. I will get that turbo fixed but I have a better one so far. The on has a .64 AR instead of the .82 of the GARRETT. I ABSOLUTELY love it. It comes on almost instantly. I still have to get it tuned though. That will be very soon. So far the car makes 245hp.

Re: Turbo problem
They actually spin way faster than 45000rpm, and especially in oil only turbo you need spool down and cool down time if you have driven it hard just prior to parking it and shutting it down. It's not nearly as much of an issue on watercooled turbos!

So do you think the Brad Penn oils wasn't the issue?Amurray wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 1:32 pmMy turbo was a Garrett GT35r. I thinks I have the problem resolved. It was an oiling issue. I'm asking because I've just built my engine and was planning on using Brad Penn, but don't want to trash my brand new EFR7163!

Re: Turbo problem
Cool thanks!
I'm using the running in oil for the first 300 miles as strongly reccomended by my engine builder.
I guess that won't affect the turbo bearings.
To be honest the more you dig the more potential issues you find, maybe I should just crack on!

Re: Turbo problem
I can second the use of Brad Penn ( PennGrade ) oil, I have been using it ever since it came out . I have never had an issue with lubrication quality with it . So what exactly did you find caused your bearing failure on your turbo ? I asked previously whether it was a Chinese turbo because I have seen some without 360 degree thrust bearings in them which causes the turbine shaft to walk the compressor wheel into the compressor cover causing the damage you spoke of. Glad to hear you have it fixed .
