How many?

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Another source for Dzus fasteners that I like to use id from up in Leather's neck of the woods - Allen's Fasteners (www.allensfasteners.com). Very good prices and quick, friendly service.

Allens Fasteneers, which is located in Needles, does not have the purdy black allen head fasteners, but they do have these:

Kartek has domed, black fasteners: https://www.kartek.com/parts/quarter-tu ... pring.html

Your Amazon price is about $1.80 each - both the ones I sourced are $1.59 each.

Are the Allen head advantageous to the flat blade head?

I was taking the panels off my car the other day and had a few that wouldn't come out with my flat blade Dzus driver. My concern with the Allen head is we get into alot of mud and clay, so I'm worried the allen socket would pack full and be even more troublesome.

True!

The standard blade style of insert has the same problems that a blade screw does and that being "walkout" by the blade during use boogering up the slot for the screwdriver's blade. Some fasteners have the slot deeper than others but if you get any angle on the screwdriver when working then "walkout" and damage to the slot can be had.

Allen head or some of the new style of recessed tools like the "double triangle" (et al) have the same or similar problems that a Phillips head has and that being a weakness between the bottom depth and the shank because the depth of the taper. There is also a cross-style head which is similar but does not penetrate as deep as the Phillips head also could be a good choice (this is the one where you have to dress the bottom of the Phillips but not too much or "walkout" happens here too).

In other words... choose the devil you want.

Carrying a squirt gun might be a good idea for the Allen Head styles in mud and dirt  .

Squirt gun would be a good idea but I had enough bouncing around inside this run.
