I used a tps from ebay.
Fits the d shaft, but is not spring loaded

type 3 injection .jpg
In the mid 80's as an apprentice I converted Type 3 injection to suit an up right 1640 with a mild cam . I also cut the throttle body section off the plenum and fitted a throttle body from a 1700 Type 4 that had a bigger throttle plate . It's in the photo Lower right side . It ran , how much better than a stock 34pict I can't remember .
If you're planning a little more power would a bigger throttle body off the 944 be worth the effort to fit to the type 3 plenum ?

Hey Mike,
Yeah, I have seen that one on ebay as well. Funny its hole is a little assymetrical, but very good to know that the shaft is 8mm D-shaped as well and therefore fits. And thanks for the info that its not spring loaded, which is a pity, but would not be a real problem I think.
Think this is the same one:

The original type 3 throttle valve is 40mm. The 944 one is 60mm.
For now I think 40mm will do. I just want it to run nicely and I don't want to stress this old engine too much. The current 62hp is enough for what I use the car for (holidays and weekend trips mostly) and type 3's don't like a lot of revs (because of the big fan after ~5500)
If the EFI eventually runs good, I might investigate if a small turbo could be fitted for low-mid end grunt and just for the fun of it and then 40mm would still be ok I think

Hi Wally, i now that spring loaded one are avalible , but dont have the a part number.
Without spring will work, the vehicle list is huge , so it works in millions of cars

What will you do about modern injectors, fuel rails and injektor hold down?

Well Michael, I did still have two sets of injectors: an old set from a Ford Sierra 2.0 I believe, they are 200cc/min if the interweb is correct and a very pretty rather new-ish set of short Siemens 450cc/min injectors:
The Siemens however do not fit the injector hole of the original manifolds:
But the (older compared to the Siemens) style Ford injectors (Bosch) are exactly the same dimentions as the original injectors, only have a modern fitting connection.
As you can see above, some of the old rubber fittings are completely gone. With a modern fuel rail (which should/could be mounted to the original twin 6mm studs), I should however not need those rubbers, nor the original holding down plate.
In short, should all be very doable, but... I do need a fuel rail for twin injectors with 43,5mm center to center openings...

I had the same problem, but I lucked out. The end piece was plastic so I just broke it off.

As far as attachment, fuel rail material is readily available. I got a local machinist to punch holes in the right places and he made me a pair of stands that bolt right up where the stock hold-down was. EZ.

Hi Max, do have holes in the fuel rail?
Where the injector is stuck in.
Is it a stepped hole?
Do you have a better pic from your mounting bracket?

My machinist put holes in the rails sized to the injector. They are stepped in order to allow a little downward force to be applied to the bottom end when it's all tightened up. It was a little picky getting the depth just right but it works well.
Another way we talked about was to bore the holes in the manifold deeper such that that end would seal around the outside of the o-ring but we tried this way first and it worked.

Let me see about better pictures. I'll be sending the injectors out for cleaning soon so there will be an opportunity.

I am in a similar design process - except mine is an early car with the smaller engine bay. I have a mock up 1600 ready to test fit tomorrow to see what (gasp) carbs (stock early single ports, stock late dual ports, ICT’s and IDF’s) will fit and if in the end nothing other the stock sidedraft fits, I have a stock fuel injection set up to try as well. Part of me is hoping carbs fit...and the other part is saying 1600 MS turbo would be fun.
Anyways, always look forward to what you are doing. Take care.

Small steps were made in the meantime:
