Since this pic, I have removed the leaves and added FOA coilover shocks ( rides and handles so much better)
I also removed the dinosaur lights and installed LED light. The picture is somewhere in my computer....LOL

Thinking about putting a 2.3 ranger motor in my Baja. I'm 55 now.

Like most engines the in-line 2.3 Ford engine may have some problems to watch out for but this is not saying it is a bad engine to use.

In-line 6-cylinder engines have lower end torque better than some engines.

I am not sure if the "250" is the same as the 2.3 but this is what I was told many years ago. I am using a Ford V6 in my black buggy but you might want to look into finding a 6-rib bus trans to handle the engine's torque output. You are also might want to look into beefing up the pan and adding otherother support things.

Yeah, that is being done along with supports for the rear suspension. I am kind of out of the garage for a while due to other things going on.

Even with a stock bug engine in a buggy, it needs additional supporting if there is any "funny stuff" that will or could be going on.

Being out on the dunes I have seen a lot of unexpected dam(N)age come towed back into camp over the years. Back at my starting with buggies I asked a lot of questions and got a lot of discussions on things going wrong in even with mild use. I still ask but the "old knowledge" is slowly disappearing which is why Shopktalkforums.com and other similar sites are great for discussions and the storage of both old and new (knew?) information.

This is something I did that was good, but it was also mistake. I had built the 3" body lift and used all the body mounting holes in it but then after seeing some damage done to another buggy I decided to capture the pan between two tubes not just the body lift so I did a 1" square tube (you can see the kerfing/pie cuts here for forming the square tube) but, the captured assy should be strong but a 1 X 2" tube would have been stronger.

If you put a tube like this in the body mount flange on the pan you should get some additional strength but the use of the 1 X 1 would be hidden. The 1 X 2 would be stronger but not show as much.

I posted this stuff as a safety thing.

The bug pan by itself is not that strong as the tunnel is often considered having most of the secondary strength since a real body is gone which did most of the strength et al.
The 2-piece tunnel itself is not as torsional strong as one would like and the main parts are spot-welded together. The joins need to be properly welded up for safety purposes.

The FG body is not real strong itself, so additional work needs to be done to protect it and for safety.

If you use info or don't use the info., it is up to you. I gave it just to help.

It took me a lot of information gathering and correcting stuff already done wrong on my blue buggy. My black buggy also had a lot of learning to be done and what I started with was worse than the blue buggy.

More exciting news for the Hendersons! We have purchased a home in Blanchard, OK to be close to our kids, and GRANDDAUGHTER. We have lived in the same 5 bedroom 3.5 bath 3,000 sq ft house for 25 years and are going to scale down to 1600 sq ft home with 3 bedroom and two baths. The property has a 1650 sq ft shop that I will move my tools to. 700 sq feet of it is insulated and air conditioned. After running some more circuits for tablesaw, etc I will get the rest of it insulated. The little bump out is a room for my big air compressor.

We have looked at property for 2+ years and finally found something that meets our needs. We will be 16 miles from our sons home and 20 miles to our granddaughters home.
