Update:
In December I split the case and took it and the heads and P&Cs to the machine shop. The plan was to deck the case as needed then figure out what to do to correct the compression ratio. The machinist called me asking for my notes/numbers for deck height and such. His compression ration numbers and chamber cc measurements all matched mine, which was encouraging. He said he would call me with his plans after he got the case decked... well, I got a call saying everything was ready to be picked up. No specifics from the caller, just the price, which was ok, I trust the guy. I made it up there a while ago and picked up my parts.
The case got decked 0.005" and the cylinder seating step milled out of the head. While this doesn't get my deck height down much it does correct the compression ratio enough. The machinist is a great guy and has been doing this forever however, he's not going to be persuaded to set a guy up with a tighter deck than he's been comfortable with. It'll probably come out to about 50 thousandths.
I have a few head studs that didn't survive the R&R very well. What are thoughts on running used head studs from another engine?
