Making a Straight Axle Kit

I just realized last night, that the end castings are also where the swingplate attatches, hence the need for that end casting to be used on the end of the long axle.

I feel stoopid for not catching that sooner.

I have the templates. Will work on getting them on the computer this weekend. Does any one know how the emergency brake cables need to be extended and by how far? What kind of shocks would you run? I noticed that they offer shocks with their kit that are modified.

Hey Doublecab, Glad to see the templates got there. Hope they will work for you. I'll ask my brother to measure the e-brake extentions he got with the IRS Wolfgang kit and get back to you. Sorry the templates were cardboard but that was cheaper than metal ones. Hope you can post then for everyone (sorry Bus Boys and Wolf Gang) You can't keep it all from the eager.

Emergency Brake Cable Extenders

Post by vwdoublecab1966 »

Does anyone have one information on how to make the extenders for the emergency brake cable extenders. I have been gathering information to post on a website for everyone and that is about the last of what I need to get it all put together...

That site is great!!! The thing that dauned on me though.... Why couldn't you use the long axles inside of 4 standard bug tube cut and mated together? That way you can save the long axle tubes and use the more common early bug axle tubes.

Better yet: Could you buy Long SAW axles and run those inside of 4 cut and welded BUG axle tubes?

Are the T2, Bus, spring plates longer or angled? Why couldn't you just use the beetle spring plate on the Bus chassis?

Can you run standard length BUG axles and tubes to "tuck" the wheels under the bus farther????

I really want to lower my bus 3" and tuck the wheels a little so I can run Cookie Cutter wheels (already have them). The offset is not enough..

Thank you!

Thanks damo99

I have got a back piece of a split bus that I am using to jig up
My biggest Question is that the std Spring plate of the split bus when used with the lengthened axle tube
It actually has to be moved +-3 splines on the outer side upwards but then it catches on the top stopper ?? what do the guys do there

Is this not Dangerous

Or is there a special Welding prosses that has to be used to weld on the Spring steel
