more on tires

Post by vwtype181 »

My concern is more with the possibility of the tire (at full lock turn) hitting the expensive fender lip when I hit a large bump. When I put the 27X8.5X14 BFG All-terrains on the front for a test fit, there was only 2.5" of clearance between the fender lip and the tire--thereby causing me concern. But in the current issue of Hot VWs there is a featured Thing running the BFGs in the front with (apparently)stock suspension height. Maybe they do fit and will not cause fender damage? Thoughts?

sorry this is late. my tires are between 26 and 27 inches in diameter. hard to get a good reading 'cause i have tall center caps on my empi 5's. i know that my snows are a little bigger. they are at least 27 inches on stock rims. my thing has front end damage (rear ended somebody a few years ago) that has pushed the fenders a little closer towards the tires, but these still fit under the fender lip while turning.

Tire Clearance: You can still hit the back of the headlight buckets even when you have fender edge clearance. It happens in sharp turns when you hit the brakes at the same time.
