When I first bought my 181 I had the same problem-wobble at areound 50 mph but nothing when I sped up or drove slower-turned out to be the ball joints.

I HAD A VIBRATION AT 40MPH, WENT AWAY 45MPH, BALANCED TIRES, THEY WERE NEW TIRES) NO CHANGE, REBALANCED TIRES DIFFEREENT SHOP, NO CHANGE, AGAIN REBALANCE, NO CHANGE. PURCHASED DIFFERENT TIRES AND WHEELES, STILL VIBRATES, WENT TO AMERICAS TIRE (DISCOUNT TIRE)
AND PAID 100 BUCKS FOR A "ROAD FORCE" BALANCE, AND VIBRATION IS 90% GONE. BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, AND STEERING STABILIZER WERE ALL REPLACED PRIOR. HOPE THIS HELPS

by Kubelmann
I have two 73 Things. Herr Kubelmann has a 1915 with all the bells and whistles. The front end is cut and turned. I took nearly two years taking the entire car apart adn replacing stock with off road and high performance parts. This entire car is tight as a drum no wobble wiggle or giggle from this bad boy.
Last Sunday I brought KubelPanzer home. I have been working through the front end. This car has lots of loose parts. I have repacked the front wheel bearings, replaced the shock damper, tightened the shocks and I stillhave issues. The tire rods and ball joints all look very new from the orutsdie of teach part. The steering box is coverd with wet grease. The car has GR-2 front shocks and air shocks in the rear. (this is my first vehicle with air shocks.) When I turn left sometimes I get a realy nice high pitched squeal. I am still working through different ideas about how it get this front end solid. WE went out crusing today first offroad in Herr K and then an urban sort of cruise with KubelPanzer. For the Herrk K run we went wiht hardtop and windows out. On the KP cruise we went with the windshield and soft top down and the windoes and doors off. A weekend spent of workingon Thigns adn driving Thing(s) is fairly hard to beat. "My body's aching and my mind is at ends." (name that tune>>) But I am one happy Thingster tonight. HK/KP
