Oh, yeah, thanks for the pics Ecdez!
I'm doing the same thing, plus suspension rebuild, as soon as I get the brakes to where the wagon can roll...this'll help.

The pics show as far as I have got on this. I only have about 2 hours of play time after work. As I get further along, I will take more pics and continue to post them. I should be able to wrap it up this weekend, and I'll post the pics sometime Monday. Glad to see everybody likes them, and I hope you guys will find this info useful.

Hey Ecdez, I'll be up close to your neck of the woods next week. Have to spend about 4 days in Arlington. The only thing I'm looking forward to in the whole trip is going to this little brew-pub, great beer! Then there is the top-less resturant, they have great steaks. So make that two things I'm looking forward to.
Hey Uber, will spend the following week in St. Louis, any where close to Milo?

I've finally got everything out and started cleaning the tank. Boy was it nasty. I've probably got 3 hrs in the front end removal. Not as bad as I thought. I'm sure it will be a lot more fun to get back in.
Don't forget to mark the location of the front end before you take it out.
Here's some more pics.

Sweet job
Hey, I'll bet it must be nice to have all that stuff out so you can see what's going on under the front end! I hate that skunk gas smell too!
I had it in my yard too! I didnt pull mine like you but I'm sure I will sometime! I just did the pull plug and flush like crazy with a hose in the neck, lol! The way you're doing her is the right way! That way you will know what is right since you have pulled it and seen the condition!
Thanks again for the pics! Keep us posted! Bill

Its really not too bad. You can actually leave the steering box in the car...and leave the struts in the car as well if you just want to take out the subframe and the tank. You can pull the ball joints loose with the three bolts. Disconnect the center tie rod ends from the steering box and the idler bracket. Wire the steering knuckles and calipers to the bottom of the struts so they don't fall off....and pull the whole mess back a few inches to allow them to pivot out of the way on the strut bearings. Oh...first disconnect the steering dampner from the centerlink. Then, drop the subframe along with the control arms and the sway bars attaced. The tank comes out next. Ray

The way to go,lol!
The good thing about taking it all out is to see what you have and you can clean the parts up easier and can assemble some of it! Wouldnt it be nice to have the giant warehouse or garage to take the car all apart and clean and paint everything! I jones when I look at the job they did on the 412 on ReVolks.com for those folks! Then you know it was gone over and can feel happy driven, lol! Can you post some more pics later of the tee bar and those parts when you go over that? Thx, Bill

No problem. I'd like to replace what I can with new, I just don't know where to find the stuff. Ray says that it's all available. I guess I'll go through the posts and see what I can find.
I bought 4 gallons of Muratic acid at $2.97 a gallon and one gallon of OSPHO(sp?) at $12.99 so about $25 bucks for all of that. I was reading the label on the Muratic acid and that stuff is really potent. It says its used for etching concrete
. I going to dig up my paint mask when I go to use it and probably buy some thick rubber gloves. Hopefully I will get it done over the long weekend.

I tried all this stuff on the tank out of my van. Used 2 or 3 gallons of Muratic acid, a chain, etc. Still wound up taking it to a radiator shop, for $100 they cleaned it and treated it.
ECDEZ great and informative thread! Although you could have done what the PO of my 412 did and just cut the metal from above the tank away to remove it.
Then put it back together with plumbers straps. A true hack job.
