Good thinking. I like that idea also. They were originally red right? Did you know that today porsche makes a spare for the Cayenne that looks like steel also but is the same 'design', but then in 18" (x6J)!!
Pity you can't buy a decent tire for it that small...

On thesame level: the 993 has a very nice spare, looks more like the Weltmeister bug design wheel (also originally red). They make nice light drag race wheels for the front...

Walter

Mine are actually silver from the factory. You're right though, most of the Porsche alloy spares are red for some reason. I thought of this years ago, but I didn't know if it would work until I saw some pictures. Yep, I don't know of any tires that could fit an 18x6" wheel. Maybe there are some crazy old bias ply tires out there that could? I know there are some 17" Porsche spares (Boxster?), I wonder how wide they are, 5.5" or 6"? I wonder if a 195/40 17 tire could work...? That size is a bit difficult to get in the states, though.

They make them red, for Americans. That way they look so stupid when you have the spare on it....that maybe you won't drive around on the "donut" for a month in a high performance car....endangering lives... like some of the pimp-wagons I see around here  Ray

Yeah, that was my though also. A red wheel screams: "hey dumbass, you've got the spacesaver spare on there still!"

How much for the little girl,....I want to buy your women.

I knew this hobby would land me a woman. My criteria is simple, "...must have ability to remove, disassemble, rebuild, assemble, and replace a 34 PICT carburator, then adjust air/fuel flow....cooking and cleaning optional". :P

I tried to find a maid that could dissassemble automotive sub-assemblies for me, as well as doing all the rest of the "chores" around the house....but she couldn't keep the grease off the sheets....so I had to fire her. Ray
