Yeah, the front suspension crossmemeber does not look like it could handle any kind of jacking load (that I do remember form the other posting...). Thanks for the good info guys.
BTW Ray et. al., the trans is out now, and I had to de-crud it before I'd let it in the garage with the rest of the nice parts...I've never seen such a filthy trans before. The TC seal appears to have been leaking, and the combination of dirt road dust and ATF creates something like concrete when exposed to heat

It was a PAIN to get off. But, the AT and engine are happily together again, sitting next to each other in the right bay of the old two-car garage, so tomorrow it's jack up the front end and pull the centerlink, finally

I hope it isn't an obstinate pain to remove...I hate those tapered steering attach bolts, they never come off easily.
Hey Ray, the centerlink is out!

Well, Ray, the centerlink is out, and it'll be in the mail Monday morning. Boy, what a PAIN in the tuchas to get out of there. I went ahead and removed the idler and steering gearbox so I can replace the bushing (idler) and clean the gearbox and check the seal out. Both ends are loose, one has a good 1/4" of vertical travel, the other has about 1/8". Both boots are bad. Looks like you've got your work cut out for you

My old Pitman arm puller got quite a workout, you could hear the "ching" when the tapered joints gave way all the way in the house!

Whatever you do...don't destroy the seal on the steering gearbox...whatever is left of it. There is no replacement. It is a bastard size. I"m working on that one. I was able to have one machined from urethane in 1994. I'm trying to see if that company can still do things for me. Ray

Thanks for the heads-up, I won't mess with the seal, then
