Deathbus...in that respect...you are quite right. If you have s ay...a set of rods that are known to have come in an engine,....and they did do a pretty god job of grouping at the factory,...and you use a decent digital scale to shuffle parts....and maybe even grind a little on the rods....you will do quite well. This does still not get dynamic balance of the crank.....but you should do quite well.
It is a big deal engine and benefit wise....but I agree with you. There is no reason to make a huge worry of it. This can all be done.....easily....in a lot of places. With little or no effort on our part. Ray
