Deathbus...in that respect...you are quite right. If you have s ay...a set of rods that are known to have come in an engine,....and they did do a pretty god job of grouping at the factory,...and you use a decent digital scale to shuffle parts....and maybe even grind a little on the rods....you will do quite well. This does still not get dynamic balance of the crank.....but you should do quite well.
It is a big deal engine and benefit wise....but I agree with you. There is no reason to make a huge worry of it. This can all be done.....easily....in a lot of places. With little or no effort on our part. Ray

Thanks for all the great thoughts! So the flywheel is one part that could cause a lot of balance issues and relate to wear! I think it was on Jake's site that showed how much such a little weight could be a issue at higher RPM's! So basically of coarse you want to match all the parts to each other then you need to get a equal total per rod with the piston/pin/rings/clips which is what you should get if they are equal to start with but its better to determine the weights then match them together to get close totals per rod to see what changes need to be done.
A gram is a small unit too! It does seem the cost of having it done somewhere is worth the cost if you think of the time you would put into it yourself! I just dont want to build the motor again a third time! I like when a good plan comes together the first time! It just takes the steam out of you when things turn bad because you decided to not do a step!
You end up spending more in the cost of gaskets by then! Bill
