I dropped off of a Harley forum because of bickering over a vender having some rough times. Mike Basso got hurt. He needs time and support. He's a one man team, and has been very helpful to our cause of keeping Things running at a very reasonable cost. If you don't want to give him your support during his recovery, go off to other vendors, or open up your own shop. Then perhaps those who cannot understand how hard it is to run a small business will realize it's not a matter of just "giving someone else the responsibility....." This would cost money; money that would have to come from higher charges for parts and service. Then you all would be complaining about that....
I sure hope this site doesn't turn into a "base a vendor' site.

good post... as the underqualified moderator of this site..... I must say
We are here to talk Thing stuff and help each other use the VW Thing as a source of mental health. Beyond that function.... this forum has no purpose.

Thanks for the update!!! Will everyone who gets any part or contact from Mike please post on this forum. I have Mike in my constant thoughts and prayers. Things come and go but nice folks are at times few and far between. And.. Mike and his family are nice folks.....

Placed an order on 10/7, was shipped 10/27, received 10/31. Still waiting on parts that were lost in shipment from an earlier order (UPS put a hole in the box).

Me, too. I am trying the good old postal service this time. I 've tried phone, voicemail, email, and fax. I'll send a letter and see if I get a response.
If I don't hear back soon, I guess I am going to have to go to the credit card company and go through the dispute process.

Mark.
How long have you been waiting on your current order?
I would assume your account has been charged to, if you are considering such a step.

-Invoiced/charged 9/29 after ordering shortly before.
-Received order a few days later with a hole in the box (missing top reinforcement kit, points), called the same day and Mike made a freight claim.
-Got a call from UPS within a week who said claim was was approved.
-Placed another order 10/7 and received it 10/31 without a problem (reminding him about the freight claim items outstanding).
-Left voice mails, tried a fax, sent emails, and mailed a letter today.
We'll see...
I was very quick to post positive comments three months ago attempting to provide support for this small, specialized business, so I have been slow and very hesitant about putting this problem out there. I'd be delighted to see this thread flooded with overwhelmingly positive transactions over the past 6-8 weeks. If you have any good news, please share it.

I am EXTREMELY pleased to report that my replacement order just showed up via UPS about 3 minutes ago. I had faith that the parts ultimately would be here and I feel bad that I didn't hang in there a few days longer.
Just wanted to let everybody know!

Do not feel bad about your post. I have also gotten frustrated with folks that did not ship stuff after months of waiting. Then I would post a message trying to figure out when the part would come and the sender got bent out of shape....
I am glad that Mike is sending out parts.. I have not had contact wiht him in some time. This is weird because in the past we spoke very frequently and on a regular basis.... I have been waiting for him ot contact me as I did not want to get in his way of healing... Thing are cool and all but they matter little in comparison to a friends health and well being... Mike is one of the truly nice people out there...

I get burned out and bored to tears when I read the testimonials and recommendations about Basso, then turn around and read about the huge delays in getting parts from Things Unlimited.
K-mann, why would you continue to laud and recommend Basso when you still can't get a rise out of him for stuff you ordered? When you can't get in touch with him because he won't answer his phone or reply to your email? It's beyond me....
In markie61's post, we see the delays and hassles have continued for some time.....finally resolved this week.
9/29, the day the credit card was charged (previously ordered). Received 10/31...but...lost parts. One month +.
Finally... delivery of the lost parts ordered, on Dec 20, 2005.
11 + weeks to fill the order.
11 + weeks.
That's not acceptable to me.
Why is it acceptable to anyone?
Duh!
Especially if they were commonly available parts.
I continue to be totally baffled why would anyone hassle with this kind of inept service.
