Hi everybody! My name is Dan and I have a 412. Second air-cooled VW for me but my first foray out of Type I land. Not many in the KS/MO area of the midwest where I am.

Seems like 1/2 of the type 4 archives are on the samba and 1/2 are over here. Thought it was time I entered this 1/2 of the type 4 world. :)

Hi all, I just found this group. I’m Mike and live in Houston. I have a ‘73 412 Wagon I bought new in San Diego. I also have a ‘68 Beetle I bought in ‘71. Both of them need some work, and now that I am retired, hopefully I can get to them.

‘68 Beetle, had it since ‘71

Hi there,

My name is Lee, I live in the UK and I have always been an avid fan of V-Dubs ever since I was a child. I've have owed a few over the years, at present I have a 71 bug, albeit a shell (body off resto) at the moment, and also I presently own a Type 4. I will be the first one to admit that I rather under estimated the amount of work that the Type 4 needed and warranted to nurture this classic back onto the road, however we are nearly there. I do hope to gain some more insight and assistance to aid the long journey of both my current resto's as they progress and I would greatly appreciate any help that members are willing to give from the wealth of skills, knowledge and experience that exists of this forum.

Kind Regards,

Lee.

Hi, here are just a few pics of the ongoing repairs and weather proofing and structural overhaul of the 411...

As you can see basically a winter spent welding all corners of the car, but all good now and floorpan water tight and triple undersealed.
Thanks for the welcome.

Especially Ray I'm sure I'll be contacting you, as you seem to be the go to Guru in the area of the Type4's.

Lee.

Hallo from Norway (612 RS)

Post by VW 612 RS »

I thought I had introduced my self but I don’t think so.

My name is Hans Olav Strand.
Live in Trondheim in the middle of Norway.

In my early days I didn’t have any interessed in cars.
But my first meeting with the car enthusiasm came when I was 16 years old in -82.
My friend had a older friend who had a Vw 412 with a Porsche engine. Its was just a 2.2 L 130hp but the sound og those aircooled flat six is something special.
A dream was born. One day I will have one.

In the ealry 90’s I bought a -73 412 who I repainted in VW white and used for daily drive for many years.

In 2001 I came across this 612 RS project.
It was started converted to Porsche engine.
And its are still in progress

That’s amazing & mad!

Using the stock air intake to feed the intercoolers and the fan or rear vent to draw air out?

The CTR influence is strong

Hello I am Terpsoccer AKA Anthony. My father and I are currently restoring a 1973 412 Variant in Maya Gold. What drew me to this 412 is the status as the last of the air-cooled models. Also you almost never see them at any VW show at least here in CT.

My name is Kevin and I just purchased a 1974 412 wagon. It has a very nice body and is a good runner. There are a few problems that I still need to work out but that's half the fun.

Why did I buy a 412? My VW thing wasn't ugly enough? No the real reason is that my parents had one when I was a child and I always had a nostalgia for the 412. I remember taking many trips down to Florida sleeping in a sleeping bag in the back of the wagon. The warmth of the engine and the nice drone put me right to sleep. What a car!

Thanks,

Kevin
Congratulations! Thee are great cars! They actually drive and handle better than any of the of the VW aircooled cars (except maybe something like a VW puma or SP-2...and the type 3 is close). They are very comfortable as well for long drives.

I keep meaning to post more here on the STF. I post a lot in the Samba VW 411/412 forum and we have solutions for a lot of the brake and suspension parts that are no longer available. So if you do not find it here, drop by over there!
