Re: The Journey of Jake - Lexi's Bus (Was: And one more added)
Fuser put in lots of good time yesterday helping me with all that, we do seem to have a set of horses clopping around underneath the front. Inconsistent, sometimes silent horses. There were some very scary words in that post you just made fuser, me hopes my baby isn't going to fall apart. Sneaks, you just reminded me that I forgot to go pick up that stuff that's still sitting in Fuser's garage. Whoops.
So now Jake needs...
a brake adjustment
a horn
me to find and hook up back-up lights
those horses to go away, whatever that might mean
to figure out that charging problem
a working speedometer
In other news, I can now find reverse gear! (I didn't actually notice that it hit the seat, though)

well we had to drill out one of the socket cap screws, but both front rotors were replaced and the nasty drivers side bearings repacked. usa made timikens over there, china made onthe pass, both looked real good lots of life left. however the pass side spindle nut was gummy and refused to go back on. I have one spare in my pile, but i don't know if its drivers or pass side. the rotors and calipers were deffinatly the source of the noise, the drivers side caliper bolts were only threaded half way in. forgot the 3/8th to 1/2 adapter for my torque wrench so they haven't been snugged down yet. also found quite the bubble on the drivers front tire, so the hunt is on for one replacement. Sadly the cold and stuck bolt ate up what little time we had to work, so the charging system is still in need of love.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

You forgot the part where my toes turned into ice cubes. And the part where we discovered that I had forgotten to buy wheel bearing grease. Am I going to be able to put that replacement bolt back in? (you said something about it being loose.) And should I order a spindle nut?
Scott, if you ever happen to be in the area, or I happen to be up there, perhaps you could give me a quick lesson about the electrical workings in the back? Another friend was over on Friday and he and I looked at the wiring, and we can't figure out why the back-up lights don't work, though we know it's not a burned-out bulb. We tried to get to the switch on the transmission, but the place where it goes in appears to be thoroughly encased in cake batter from the jurassic period. There's also a lot of cut wire just sort of dangling in the back, it looks like the owner before you blindfolded himself and went crazy with a pair of scissors...

Can you translate that into five year-old dummy talk? SWs are a type of tire? I'm probably interested, but I'm not sure how tires and load ratings work

well thats suposed to be snows as in tires with tread meant to shed snow and give better traction all season tires are ment for year round driving dry wet snowy and dirt load rating has to do with the stiff ness of the side walls the sides of the tires for the heavy weight the tires were fitted to a syncro westy
nota matched set of 4 so they arent great for my syncro's
and my grandparents dont drive their westys in the winter and have 4 good tires on their registered van.

she also needs the striker latch (the part on the body) for the rear hatch. I wouldn't imaigne any of your cars could spare one? also make sure we talk before the tetnus hulk goes to the bone yard, some pieces aught be cutt off it. she may want the drivers side seat tracks as well.

fuser, what's the deal with the spindle nut? you never mentioned whether your spare was the right side... and if not, where should I look for one by the end of next week?

would love some help on finding the nut. fuser and i are both elbow-deep in finals right now, so I don't think he's had a chance to figure out whether his is the right one. it would be good to have a backup. Thanks!

Jake has 4 good tires and is no longer on jack stands with a good spindle nut.
