Skid, I know the parts breaking sucks but you have done some nice improvements to your Baja when you got back in it.

Lucky beats good. Never considered my hilift jack mount. The jack cleared the upper shock mount by 1/2". I couldn't have planned it this close...

Since the new upper shock mount needed to use the space where my fuel filler was, I had to come up with a new location. It's a little high, but still protected in a roll over. There is a small amount of flange protruding, but the filler cap is recessed and out of harms way.

If anyone needs some plastic tube end caps, hit me up. I had to order a lot of 25, and only needed 2. They are sized for 1-1/2" od x .090" - .120" wall round tube.

Re: Making progress...
I finally finished rough cutting the body to clear the coil over shocks. My first attempt didn't account for how much the shock moves through the entire suspension travel. I had always resisted going coil over due to the amount of body in the way. The stock 'vert frame support structure didn't help matters. Now it's time to grind off all the burrs and sharp edges. I plan on gluing edge grommet material around all the cut edges after grinding.

Going to put some fabric or material to close that dust hole up?

I don't think putting anything over the coil springs would work very good. And what is the point? Trying to keep dust and dirt out of a convertible??!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good f'ing luck with that one!!Leatherneck wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 3:52 pm Going to put some fabric or material to close that dust hole up?

Re: Making progress...
Good point. If I remember correctly there was a period of time they put cloth bags over the area in question but they forgot that not only do the springs compress but the stretch also. Add to that the dust and dirt in the air plus the clamping between the spring loops so that the fabric deteriorates quicker than one would think.Skidmark wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 8:30 amI don't think putting anything over the coil springs would work very good. Being silly but maybe a bandage over the hole would work as the fabric part may let the hole in the shock breathe some

Re: Making progress...
My Baja had the vinyl shock outer wears over the springs and them Sara made Velcro deals that would wrap around those to keep the silt and dust from coming through the shock holes. You would be surprised how much they helped. I think having a top is worse because there’s n where for it to exit.
