Birdddogs '69 Baja and beam build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Was worried about that box. Not many threads showing on the adjustment screw.

Swapped the truck and the bug at the shop, truck is in the shop, bug is at home. Think it was the coldest day I ever drove the baja today. Do Kadrons need any special adjustment for colder weather?

Are your carbs trying to freeze-up? Frosty looking on the outside, real ice on the inside? What kind of air filter(s) do you have?

Didnt look at em, just seems to take a long time to warm up and run right. Running little pod filters from a motorcycle. Ol the far left in this pic.

It's been in the 20's at night here, 40's at day. How cold has it been there? If you could get some pre-heated air from the exaust to those carbs it would help. I don't think those small filters are doing you any favors. I think it would be cool to build a winter air cleaner, one that siphoned off a little heat from the exaust to heat the carbs.

There's a thread somewhere around here that does just that, let me see if I can find it.

No luck so far. I was thinking somebody ran some hose from the heater vents/outlets on the engine tin to an air cleaner, but I can't find it. :?

That was me...back in the day. No pics of it though.

I ran 3 of the flexible heater hoses from under the pushrod tube area up a K&N style air cleaner. I used some 2in round aluminum downspout/gutter connectors trimmed to fit the air cleaner and just clipped in between the lip on the base and lid. And then hose clamped the heater ducts to the connectors.

Not sure if that makes sense? Does to me.... but I remember doing it.

Going to look at a '71 bus today. It's a Campmobile conversion, been sitting for a while. Kid said he wants $5-600 for it hope I can talk him down. I think it is at his uncles house who seems anxious to get it out of the yard.

Good luck! That's a killer deal, if it's salvageable.
