Hehe, that is why I have a small one. And my son is a trained operator, so he has given me some guideance. But even this little one can cause a lot of damage to a hand or an arm if you are not careful.

I learned the basic of a vertical mill and big lathe at a factory. So, when I went on nights I had everything to myself. Ask the machinists to show you.

dont leave the chuck tool in the head, know where the E stop is, No gloves, long sleeves or hair, use your tail stock, and don't mount heavy large objects like vw jugs without a fixture. These things do not care wether or not you walk out of that building alive.

Oh, and Never EVER use milk as a lubricant no matter who tells you it works well. that shop will stink for months after the operation.

Other than that, you can do a lot with basic lathe tool knowledge. i would consider learning Mr. buguy.

yeah the fat content is supposed to help reduce chatter and thermal expansion when cutting metals like copper that way the material wont grab. Ive only turned one copper object and until I invest in a lube system I told myself never again even Tool steel is 10000000% easier for me. Ive been recommended granola oil too. There a few threads on the whole milk idea over on practical machinist.

Trying to get the thread back on track

Boring stuff at the moment but I have been prepping some parts so they atre ready for powder coating tomorrow. I have put a bung for a temp sensor in the tubes both before and after the SC so that I can measure the cooling effect. Will give me some interesting data.

Looking much better:) I trial fitted all the parts once more, and there are only a couple more brackets I need t make before I can put this together for good: There is still snow on the ground here, sot it will be another few weeks before I get the car out of storage so I can fabricate the necessary parts for the radiator and the rest of the cooling system.

A little slow progress the last few weeks, but I have fabricated all the parts I need (I think) so now I have disassebled all the external parts, so that I can start the final assembly: All the parts are stacked nicely on the shelf: So now I will do the final assembly so that the engine is ready when I get the Ghia out of storage. The snow is almost gone here now, so I hope I can get it in a few weeks time

Very nice! I like how organized that is. Makes for less problems down the road.

This weekend I got started on final assembly, and I even located all the "easy to forget" parts that are underneath the engine. They received a good cleaning and now I have verified that it all fits, so I will sandblast and powder coat them next.
My 15-year old was left in charge of the breast plate, and started out by deleting all the unnecessary holes: I guess I could use some heater hoses here in Norway, but I have not had heater boxes on this car dfor the last 12 years, so even though I am getting old, I will not add it now either

Anyone has any experience with radiator size for the IC water side?

I have this laying around: It is about 7x10 inches, and the plan is to mount it under the car with a scoop forcing air through it.

I will also have a ca 2 gallon tank and a circulation pump in the system; just have to find a suitable locatioon for the tank.
