Re: Project Oddball - A Build Saga
Update:
Pulled the Driver's side door (Passenger already off), Hood, and Decklid off yesterday. Removed the Body from the pan for the first time, and then set it back in place. Now we have to build the frame to hold the body. No pics this time, it's hard to take pics when everybody is working on something at the same time.

Okay, I know it's been a long time since I last updated this, but School and work keep getting the best of me.
The Body is off the pan now and guess what we discovered! The beam is bent. So that'll be getting replaced.
Good news is, the Trans is all clean (mostly) and shiny now.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them, ran out of time before it got dark tonight.

It's the amount of projects I have to work on that gets me. Last night I ended up working on my Mom's mustang instead of my car.Chip Birks wrote:Lookin' good! Bout time you posted some progress shots, you seem to work on your projects almost as slow as I do!
Screwed up the threads on one of the Ball Joints when I was getting the spindle off. Hoping I can fix it tonight, so I can get it all back together. The beam, springs, and arms are back on now.

Hi, nice project, I'm hoping to start on one myself in the next month or so. What are you doing with your pans (floor)? I saw a note regarding the battery area and saw the floors look rusty, but how solid are they, I would have thought with the body off, this would be the time to replace them.
Just wondering, I've only taken the front carpet out of mine and the floors seem reasonbly solid and I'm wondering if I sould leave them and put Por 15 on them, or replace them once the body is off.
Thanks,
Wayne

For some reason I have issues with Photobucket. If I upload two pics at a time, the second one never seems to resize. Will work on posting that picture.BAJA-IT wrote:WHAT!!!No pix of the battery tray area of the pan I replaced for you?

They're about as solid as a piece of aluminum foil and just as strong. At least in the battery area and the front quarters. The battery panel has been replaced, and we're replacing both the front pan quarters. They're so rusted that they wouldn't have any integrity left if I derusted them. the area under the seat rails is good though, so it's staying.Fahrfromnuvw wrote: Qurtys Lyn

The front pan quarters are both cut out and the new ones have been fitted, unfortunately my welder is leaving for the weekend, so they wont be put in till the end of next week maybe. WE've got a race the next weekend, I think dad (the welder) will only be home for one or two days before we leave for the race.

Looks like its time to acquire a new skill...Welding is definitely not one of those things that you'll regret learning to do.

It's on the list of things to do, I really want to learn to weld. However, being a full time student (Computer Science major, Electronic Engineering minor), working part time, and trying to find time to sleep does not leave a lot of time to learn to weld. I'm thinking over the summer at the DATC, I'll start on their welding courses.Chip Birks wrote:Looks like its time to acquire a new skill...Welding is definitely not one of those things that you'll regret learning to do.

Tell me about it, full time school, work, and spouse...its definitely hard to find the time to do it. I am lucky enough to have access to welders and plenty of steel, so i have been able to get a bit of a grasp on it. I'm not very good, but I can get by at this point. Do you have access to any equipment?Qurtys Lyn wrote:However, being a full time student (Computer Science major, Electronic Engineering minor), working part time, and trying to find time to sleep does not leave a lot of time to learn to weld.
