Looks like they forgot to drill the holes on yours...
If they are not metering holes and merely passages use the gasket to mark for drilling the holes.

I drilled out the holes that were blocked and ill be putting the carb on the car tomorrow so we will see how it goes.
Im 99% sure that this was the issue
I would still nicely advise AJ of the problem and fix so he can keep a closer watch.

And also, if that main circuit that feeds everything was blocked how did holding your hand over the air horn even work?
it was creating so much vacuum that is was pulling fuel through the accelerator pump which runs on a different circuit.
And i did tell AJ about it and he checked his other adjust a jet blocks and found 2 others that were not punch all the way through
What do you guys use for vacuum line? I just have standard VW cloth braided fuel like hooking up all my stuff right now as a temporary thing to get it to start and run. Should i use a vacuum graded line?
The cloth VW line is vacuum hose, I like the way it looks/feels so it is great for that. Aftermarket silicone hose is cheaper/easier to find so I have been playing with that also, it does seem to last longer than rubber.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

sweet thanks. Ill probably just leave it then. I have a friend that owns/works at a vw shop so i get all the line/parts for cost so the cloth braided is pretty cheap for me.
So right now I have my dizzy locked out 24 degrees. But i should be able to unlock it correct? I have the MSD 6BTM with the boost retard. One guy on the ultimate aircooled forum said i can run it at about 32 degrees fully advanced and set the retard to about 3/4 per lb. Which at 10lbs of boost would set me at 24.5 advanced. AJ sims told me to leave it locked and not use the boost retard but all ive read on forums is people actualy using the mech advance and boost retard
Depends how it is locked I guess. If it's welded then you'll have to get new innards. I'd run the unlocked dizzy with the MSD BTM myself. I have run it and liked it. I also have run the fully welded (locked) dizzy at 24° and liked it. Had no probs starting it either.

i didnt weld it, the msd dizzy you can lock by taking the shaft out and spinning it 180 degrees around. So it would take me 10 minutes to unlock it again
Ok new question, I was getting my throttle cable all hooked up and my pedal does not have enough throw to open the carb more than 50%. I have the mounting location as close to the pivot point as i can and im still not even close.
rubenski wrote:I think he means the pedal is on the floor and the carb only 50% open.. or am i wrong?
Did you pull on the throttle cable @ the carb so the pedal is full up before you connect the throttle cable to the arm?
I assumed that's what he meant as well. If there is not enough throw in the motion of the pedal, you have to change the location of the hole. Raising the hole gives you more cable travel distance.
....You may also need to massage the aim of the guide tube for the cable to raise the mounting hole sufficiently.
