Not building boost

Post by Schweg »

Pull the hose off the waste gate leave that vented to atmospheric pressure.

Clamp off or double kink and zip tie the hose that has boost pressure to it.

I wouldn’t wire it shut as well

I usually just stick a bolt or something in the Hose to plug it. Waste gate is fine left open.

I think if it were me I'd try the Hose first. If it still doesn't build boost, then pull the circlip off of the arm and be sure it looks like it's closing all the way, or maybe use wire or a spring to hold it shut.

Maybe try rule out the blow off valve too? Blank it off with a coke can gasket or something

My wastegate Rod is adjustable. Is yours closing all the way?

How come you're 'T'ing the pressure line off the turbo to the BOV ? I think the line from the BOV is supposed to go from the BOV to the intake manifold below the throttle plates (vacuum). And then the other line is from the pressure side of the turbo to the wastegate.

Can you show me the routing of your pressure/vacuum line from the wastegate ?

Well it turned out to be the internal waste gate actuator .I disconnected the hose and well it went way above what I was looking for.Had to put bigger jets in to get my afr in line. Thanks to everyone.

Or you can go external.

Glad you got it sorted.

I still think your vacuum/pressure line plumbing is wrong. Did you route it like I said? Is the wastegate really defective ?

If you just disconnect the line then it sounds like the WG wont open and the boost will go way above what you were looking for , right ? Maybe I'm wrong :| Wont the pressure most likely be about 8-10psi if the line goes straight from the turbo to the WG ?

Did you take the 'T' out and re-route the lines ?

The waste gate is not bad I just needed a controller like someone said. And no I have not changed the plumbing yet on my vacuum lines.

Humm. So basically your saying you have a 2# waste gate spring. That is almost impossible. I'd reroute the vacuum line to the BOV and try it again.

I will look at it.So the only thing that the turbo vacuum boost line should feed is the waste gate?My port below the carb will feed blow off the fuel pressure regulator and the distributor and boost gage?

The turbo vac line will feed the waste gate and the boost Gauge. Port below the carb will feed the fuel pressure regulator, and the distributor. Actually I think you could use either for the fuel pressure regulator. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
Also I would recommend to go ahead and get yourself a boost controller. Your going to want it at some point. It will help you get on boost quicker and give you more control, but get your issue sorted out before adding it.
