Hey, My name is Rune, I live in Denmark..
I've been into aircooled VW's forever and my latest is a very scruffy 181.
I've driven approx. 2500 miles this summer and it is not even registered.
(those are temporary plates)
Plans are for a 2.1 T5 engine, new bottom halves and a cage.
It's going to see some strip action once the engine is finished.

Hello's & Stuff
Hey all,
My name is Curt, I'm new here and VERY glad I found this place. I'm from Memphis and own a '73 blizzard white 181 with hard top...soon to be convertible again.

Many items on the list to do. Right now I'm just trying to get it running again.
Thanks,
Curt

Wow, it seems to be all guys on here! I'm Megan , as my name says, I just bought my self a '74 Thing a weekend or two ago. it has very little rust, runs great and is in overall good condition. I just need to replace the convertable top, get new tires on it, and fix the gas leak . I plan on useing this as a daily driver! i can't wait to get the parts on and get it on the road. I hope to do most of the work on it my self.
I live in Norfolk, VA. my fiance and i have a '74 bug (that i plan on geting back on the road at somepoint) and a '96 GTi Vr6.
here are a few pictures.

Meagan, There are more most awesome female Thing lovers on this site than appear face up. Many lurk and do not post. In any event welcome and please post as often as you are able. Especially if you have technical questions or need parts. We have the answers to all your troubles. We are all here to support your love of the air cooled wonder. K-mann

Hey there. I kinda introduced myself in the "daily drivers" thread, but why not do it here, too?
I'm Scott, I live in eastern Iowa, and just recently bought a '74 Thing. My siblings and I have loved Volkswagens from a young age, but this is the first one I've actually owned. In addition to some necessary maintenance, my head is swimming with improvements I'd like to make to it -- better roll bars, bigger engine, body work, lowering, you know the drill.
The seller tried to warn me that people would stare wherever I went, and that little kids would point and wave. Haha, that's just what I was after. I love it.

I've talked with, but mostly asked for advice from some of you in other places. I'm another Iowa Thing owner near Towel Rail. I've had my '74 for almost a year, although I keep it off the salty winter roads. I love the idea that I can handle most Thing problems myself, but I hate the fact that since my wife and I are outnumbered with a boy and 2 girls, I don't have the time.
You're all invited over to weigh in on what might be ailing my Thing and what's just my paranoia.

Re: Introduction
Hi,
Just to briefly introduce myself.
Have been interested in military VW`s since I was a kid, and about 15 years ago I was lucky enough to find a good ex-Bundeswehr 1974 VW181 radiocar. After a few months of searching around for the necessary parts (though not many were required), I finally had the vehicle back on the road and over the following year, managed to aquire all the original radio equipment.
After that, I then used the car as a daily driver for about 2 years, before mobilising overseas (mostly Middle East), where I still operate on a regular basis. Of course, I could not take the car with me, but it has been used every year since for taking both my son and myself to the large ex-mil vehicle gathering at Beltring in the UK where we play a bit of NATO dress-up !
Following my initial restoration, the vehicle looked a little too much like a new pin, however, it has weathered with time, and apart from needing a bit of a dust-over with some NATO Gelboliv, I think it should last me as long as I need it !
1974 VW181 Radiocar
Then, a few years ago, I also managed to find a nice 1945 VW82 (Kubelwagen), which has been under restoration since. Am getting there, but finding all the correct parts + accessories has taken time. Am almost there now, but need a few months back in the UK to finish-off the project.
March 1945 VW82
Anyway, I hope the pics come through OK and look forward to some technical discussion.
Cheers,

Re: Introduction
Awesome nice work. Great pics.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
