That is the filling vent. When you are putting fuel in...to keep the automatic nozzles on the fuel pump at the station from feeling back pressure and cutting off.....it feeds the air displaced by fuel...through that steel tube you see inside the trunk ....into the same line to the charcoal cannister that the tee in the filler neck goes to. It shouldn't be a big problem. If the gas pump keeps shutting off while filling the tank...Pull it out a little. Ray

That is the STRANGEST shaped gas tank I've ever seen. It fits the cavity in the front end of a T4 the way Catwoman fit into her catsuit (with no margin for error)

.
Yeah, $165 sounds cheep to me DB!
A new (steel) MGB tank runs $170 more or less, and it's not sealed or coated (or terneplated as it should be), so you got a deal.

Put the tank in today. TAKE THE DAMN TOP FUEL PUMP RUBBER MOUNT OFF BEFORE STICKING THE TANK UP THERE!!! Here is another thing to do also, remove the fuel filler and check for rust and doo doo. mine was NASTY!.
Got the suspension back on, wasnt that bad until i got to THE GOD DAMN STEERING BOX!!!!!! That freaking thick grommet is a pain in the ass! You should take the damn thing OFF before putting the box back in and the put the grommet in through the cab!
Replaced all the fuel line, rebuilt the injectors and fired it up! Ran off the tank fine, have a leak at the inlet/outlet pipe hole of the gas tank. Did not have enough line to do the main feed from the rail underneath the car to the fuel rail for 1/2, will go buy 6 feet of 7mm german line tomorrow. I think I have 2 bad injectors, they were leaking. (Yeah I replaced the injector seals.)
Replaced plug wires with some nice GERMAN ones from a local independent foreign auto parts dealer, they are VERY NICE.
NOBODY in this town has Bosch plugs for a Type 4 engine, will have to order some.
Tomorrow I am going to do the brakes and take the front end down off jack stands. Then I will jack up the back and explore my tranny and clutch hydraulic system, I am a little troubled by all the gear oil caked up around the tranny, I HOPE this is just all seapage from the 15 years it has been sitting, I WILL FIND OUT!
:edit: I dont say gosh darn........

Did it have a Tiajuana insurance sticker in the window? And had it come out of CAli?
