So finally went to the rolling road.
After a lot of tuning on the ignition, the small head chamber and big piston gave a lot of compression, so it didn t like a lot of advance
in the high RPM s.
But the end result was :
237Nm torque and 177HP. (with fan belt on).
I am happy with the torque, was hoping for 180 plus HP, but it runs out of power at 6000 because off the small valves.
It runs on 98 gas by the way.

So finally I can enjoy driving it again.

And saving some money for Remmele Heads next year. :wink:

was aiming to match your 200HP hahaha but have some work to do.. I think it is mainly in the heads. :lol:

I (We) always go to Beek Auto Racing in The Hague.
It is only 15km from my garage, and the guys do a lot of old race cars (and new) so they are familiar with carbs and that stuff.
And they are nice guys too and explain a lot what they are doing during the session.
Which helps me to understand how thing works, and setting up a engine for a next time.

That is a inside joke for old alfa car owners who always think they have 200hp in their 2.0 l engines..

Good to hear you went there, its a pretty accurate one I think. The Alfa crowd proving its a 'heartbreaker' dyno as I call those :-)
The power and especially the RPM you get it, seems fitting with the duration of that (86b) cam.

Be warned: Just putting on bigger heads alone (lateron) won't give you the leap in power billet heads are capable of.
Yeah, you're never quite done after you have made your choices with an engine...

Did some driving this weekend, Everything seems to work properly.
A few hours highway.
Head temp s around 160 dgr celcius. which is nice I think. Maybe a bit low... but have no reference..so..
Oil temp is bit on the high side, it is around 100 - 105 dgr celcius.. Which is a bit strange for me..the other 2 engine where always in the 90 dgr C range.
Maybe the big engine generates a bit more heat. or I am at the max of my type 4 cooler.
Have to ad, that due to the 3.78 irs gearbox the rpm s are significant .lower then on my other gearbox (short).
Doing 3000RPM s at 125 Km/h. With a short gearbox it is 4000 rpm s at 125. (on my speedometer).
So maybe looking for a 356 generator pully, see if this will bring some change.

Next weekend trip to Spa.

Are you running enough advance at cruise? I’m guessing you are light on the throttle at 3k so not pushing the engine hard and have a decent amount of vacuum?

In theory, a less dense charge (lower VE) has a slower burn so the burn continues as the piston is pulling away from the head generating unused heat… In theory

Yes the cb black box is adjusted like this on the rolling road.

Nice results Eddie! Enjoy driving it. Are you not using an extra cooler for it?

I prefer to use a BAS oil thermostat with external cooler. Maybe an idea to think about? You could also think about an adapter between the oilfilter when you use the original cooler at the original position.

No I don t have an extra cooler in place. I tried to do it with a type 4 cooler in the doghouse shroud, which worked for the 2.0 L engines.
I have the BAS oil thermostat in place, I run the oil lines from the thermostat to the cooler.
Not from an adapter between the oil filter... I have to say due to my exhaust this is also not possible, there is no space enough to mount the oil filter than.

I will try a 356 generator pullie next, because due to the 'long' gearbox, my rpm s are about 500 - 700 rpm s lower than my previous set up.
Maybe this would help a bit.

Did some test driving, so saterday up to SPA, than I have maybe some more info.

And it’s easy to reverse the 356 pulley since it’s made in 3 parts. Worth a try.

(Just ordered one for myself to add to the type4 project stockpile. Not that expensive)

Could not find the correct v belt in time, so no 356 pulley.
Drive went ok, the irs trans and suspension has a lot more comfort then the swing axle set up.
The enigne is doing 125km/h at 3200 Rpm s, a lot more quite then the old set up...
So not as tiring than before.
Oil temp is still on the high site went up to 115 degr Celcius. did a few tricks... also the old tennisball on the bottom to keep the hood
a bit open which did about 5 degr.. This was done at my first stop.. Cool part was when I went tough a tunnel (near Maastricht), the air temp was a lot cooler, which I directly saw on my oil temp gauge. dropping about 10 degr celcius.
Had a small oil leak at the base of the generator stand, which also was a problem on my old set up..
But the first 500Km are on the engine.
So small things to do.

On the matter off case ventilation, maybe the oil gets push out by to much case pressure.
Do you guys think you need vents on the valve cover after a specific cc of the engine..
lets say bigger than 2200 cc you need valve vents..

I never used valve cover vents, so I am new on this.

All info appreciated..

I'm pretty sure Len and Jake did a writeup on crankcase venting where they said that nothing extra above the top vent is needed, ever
