Just my luck. Im finally mostly all healed and we got the axles bolted up last night and ran it around the block. It was spittering and sputtering and was getting hot really quick. So this morning i put the old jets back in it and adjusted the points. The car was running in tip top shape and i was pumped. Well as Im backing out of the driveway. i hear my tires squeal and the car starts jerking and I press the clutch in. NOTHING! so i turned it off and held down the starter to get it back in the driveway. got out and pushed the clutch pedal back. no pressure. so Im thinking the cable broke. no big deal.....well I block the pedal so it holds itself and i go look at the transmission. the arm was pulled back. That can only mean one thing. The throwout shaft was broke. dang it. so we have to put that in tonight. What a buzzkill. I was so excited to drive my car.

So the throwout bearing decided it was going to shatter on us. So we got that fixed and into place and the engine back in, start it up....RUNS LIKE CRAP! shooting foot long flames out the exhaust. So i put a new condenser in today, adjusted the points, put a new coil on, new cap, new rotor. Start it up. STILL CRAP! Pops and backfires out the exhaust on the way up the RPMs and then runs on 3 cylinders when it gets up to a constant rev. So i put a new wire on each cylinder and start it up each time. No change. WHAT the freakkkkk. Now Im going to check all the plugs but I really have no clue. Any ideas?

How did it run before you took the engine off to replace the T/O bearing?

Like crap but I thought it was the smaller jets I had put in because when I drove it around the block it was popping and sputtering and It got hot quick. It ran awesome before i took the motor out the first time to put the bus box in. I checked the distributor. Tight as can be.

Check your rockers and be sure a tappet hasn't given up on you, (if you're running swivel foot tappets). Also look for a broken spring on the rocker assy., if you're not running a solid rocker shaft setup. If none of this produces an answer, try pulling one plug wire at a time, (with gloves on or using a pair of plug wire pliers), and isolate which cylinder it is. Check the wires?

I checked all the plug wires and its not any one plug. every exhaust pipe thing is hot as can be. Im gonna go check the valves. I checked the regulator and pump. Its pushing a ton of fuel and its at 3 psi. Im giving up. I cleaned the whole carb. blew air through it. The back firing is real sporatic and not consistent at all.
