I've ran that cam before, it's the "R" grind and has 279* Dur @ .050.VW1300-NORWAY wrote:Bought a cam from Kjell Aaen (Kvikk Service AS, Norway).
305 degrees, 14,50mm lift.
What CR you running with it ? I ran 10.5 to 1, but it needed more, at least 11 to 1 and even better would be 11.5 to 1.
So how do you like it ? Because everyone thinks thats too much duration for a street motor...

When I look at your car and it's engine I think, it is amazing how so many T-1 guys are out there and just have no clue!!!
When Jake and I say to them you can't compare the two engines, the car becomes a completely different car. They will never know unless they drive one.
Very nice machine, lots of luck with it!!!

The manifolds were welded and shortened...bj wrote:did you make your own manifolds?
very nice i must say. looks very stock in the car too!!!
did you have to modify the body much?
i used stock length rods, but need to trim near the passenger side valve covers a bit to make more room.

After:

I had to modify (bend) the body a bit to make the engine fit...

Compression is now 10,3:1. Will I get much more power if I change it to 11:1 ? (The engine seems really powerfull as it is....)

Or it is an option for a little more power down the road. You have a better weight to power ratio than what I have, so you would see more usable power. The cams dur & overlap does cause it to loose some Dynamic C/R.
But then what tranny are you using ? Will it handle more power ?
Have you ran a compression check yet ? I would like to know what your static C/R is.

I'll probably raise the c/r to about 11:1 this winter.
I'm now using a std. 1300S transmission (with super-diff)....

This was why I asked what tranny you were usingVW1300-NORWAY wrote:Type 4 Unleashed wrote:Hi, and thanks for your replies!

I don't think that tranny will hold to the torque of a big Type lV ? I wouldn't be dumping the clutch or doing power shifting ? Even my 901 I never dump the clutch and always stab the throttle from a roll, and I still over the past 5 years have broken 3 CV joints.
So maybe till you can upgrade to a stronger trans, I would leave your engine as it is and take it easy on your tranny...
Maybe someone that knows more about your trans will chime in with better info, cause I don't really know how much power those can really handle ?

Re: Cam choice for my 2.7l T4 engine
Time for a little update...
The engine is still alive
...and the owner is now ready for the SCC event. (http://www.sccevent.com)
Here is a little video from a testrun today.

Another update...
At this years SCC event at Gardermoen Raceway in Norway I tryed dragracing for the first time...My best time was 13.354/168.62km/t - 60ft = 2,040. (Std. 1300S transmission and street tyres...)

Hi.
A question on porting- is it a DIY kind of thing? What are key things to note if one is attempting it (and as a first timmer)?
What tools would one recommend?

I hope to build a bigger engine for my T3 which is currently on the stock 2.0 liter dual carb system.
I honestly would love a budget build for a daily drive and long-distance travel. What route would you advise me. I'd hope to use the most parts currently available...
How is your engine so far? I'd hope to know if the builds offer life and longevity.
Thanks.
Your build has inspired me.

Re: Cam choice for my 2.7l T4 engine
Eurorare O cam from European Motorworks is good for road racing. Can provide over 7,000 rpm with good porting. 12,7mm lift with 1,3 rockers. If looking for a drag race camshaft, Jurgen Nowak in Germany has billet options, and cost less than Type 4 Store cast cams.

Re: Cam choice for my 2.7l T4 engine
Thanks for the heads-up. I appreciate that info. Will the drag race camshaft favor a daily drive ??
Where can I get a good schooling of what parts blend in best fit for a certain style of drive? Say, what parts would best match for a daily, long safari drive?
Thanks.
