I just found out that I will moving to Copenhagen for a job, So I will be putting this project on hold for a while.
I have read about the horrors of the car/tax situation there and am trying to figure out a strategy to relocate my VW addiction to Denmark.
Though I am excited for the job, I am sad for the temporary setback in my vw hobby.
Life gets in the way sometimes.

I would have to live in Sweden or Germany to register it, my work visa is for Denmark so I don't think I can do that. Nice try though
Hmmm, interesting Electric cars are tax exempt (I heard that tax is about 200% of the original cost of the car, so you pay 3x for the car)

You not in the military?
Our contractors don't have to pay the tax either...

Sounds like a cool gig, too bad you can't call it in. (telecommute)
A scooter or bicycle might not be a bad plan.
Tons of metal bands there if you are into it.

Hi welcom to Denmark
Local tax for new cars is about 180% BUT vintage cars are lower. Karmann Ghia is about 5.000 to 15.000 danish kroner I think so between 1.000 and 3.000 $
I just checked our tax website, I think it will be around 2.000$
Your are welcome to contact me for any help
best regards
Niels

Ok I am back from my European experience and have set up shop in Montreal. The turbo engine is out and I am full speed ahead on the type 4.
Here is a shot of Steve working on a set of my heads.
I ended up taking the heads off to fix the exhaust studs right and decided to shave .45mm off the deck height (it was 1.45mm) by machining some meat off the back of the cylinders, so now it should be perfect.

Man I am so glad you are back. I have been lurking this post for a long time. In that time I have gather up four type 4s and most of the parts to do the conversion. Just about to get started and will try and duplicate your fan / flaps setup although I plan to just use the aftermarket 36 horse fan. I'm really curious as to what exhaust you'll be using?

I do plan on using Type IV headers with heat exchangers, the lightweight ones. I must have heat in this thing as it gets cold in Canada.
For am muffler I am smitten by the vintage speed one:

I'm dying to know if that Taiwan exhaust makes any power...
How about if I send you a T-Bird to swap out when you dyno the thing?

Do you mean the cheapie bus merged header? I have one already, I would do it if i get a chance to dyno it.

Bet you a dozen Krispy Kremes the cheapie bus header makes more power than the VST...
A collector is a beautiful thing.
At least, er, functionally beautiful.
Visually beautiful, not so much...

Ok I have run into a bit of a speed bump.
Until now I have been fitting the T4 engine into my engine bay without a pressure plate and it fit just fine.
Today I tried to install it with pressure plate installed and it does not fit, the input shaft hits the pressure plate causing the case to hit the engine bay around the alt pulley area. I will need about 3/4" more space to pull it off.
The only way I can see that this thing will fit is if I install the clutch disk and pressure plate onto the input shaft first, then install the engine and tighten the PP bolts just before sealing up the bellhousing area.
A complex and finicky method which I don't fancy doing, does anyone one have a better way?
