No, I don't For EMW, but I do work At EMW on occasion, I could be called a Beta tester, the first to use & test new products for example.

I'll look for the lifters and think about it. I definitely would like to use the 914 heads no matter what. Type 4 aftermarkets are terribly expensive.

Re: Seeking advice for my engine build.
Couldn't find og lifters
, wtf is wrong with me?! I'm a borderline hoarder so this is just weird. I could save some money building the 2270 off the bat, buying type 4 parkerized lifters and just getting the cam I want now. Use the case machining money and put it into head work. I would still like new seats, valve job, new valves, dual springs, then of course, 1.7 rockers with 911 swivel feet adjusters, and hd rocker studs. Maybe even a mild porting...
Will parkerized lifters work with a web cam? I'm thinking 86b/86c grind. Thoughts on any of this? Got to make some decisions and get this thing on the ball while my wife is being nice.

What are you doing for exhaust?
Kind of general rules of thumb:
"Build your combo around the exhaust".
"Pick your cam last".
"Cams rob Peter to pay Paul"..
When you start building it big _correctly_,
Things get out of hand $$-wise quick..
Shop some exhaust systems and get back to us.
How about Tangerine Racing?
They have some fitting stuff for a big stroker with an 86b/86c..

Re: Seeking advice for my engine build.
Here's a Heads Up, If you use a Web Cam and use any other lifter other than the ones Web sells, and should something go wrong, Web will not Warranty the cam.
And Clatter is kinda right, say you go good heads, nice cam, nice intake system, but drop the build with the exhaust, in other words your crappy exh will just choke the entire motor.

Re: Seeking advice for my engine build.
I'll do some research, and think about my lifter choice in the meantime.

Ok this is getting out of hand. lol I need to tone it down a bit. I'm gonna go back to my original plan. 2056 cc's. Gonna get the case machined and bushed for t1 tool steel lifters, buy H beams, stock crank, decent cam, same head work I wanted before. I know that running a non counterweighted crank limits rpm and longevity, but it wont be for the life of the engine.

This is not a T1.vwbaker83 wrote:... I know that running a non counterweighted crank limits rpm and longevity, but it wont be for the life of the engine.
There are no known crankshaft harmonic issues that require the addition of mass to the crank to fix.
The T4 crank etc just needs a good balance job.
Counterweights are generally not needed.
(VW fixed the T1 crank with extra HD webbing on the WBX, it needed more mass to fix the 5500 RPM harmonic, how you get there is apparently not critical)
They run the stock cranks (with a good balance job) past 9K.
Jake lightens them by pounds so they spin up faster.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: Seeking advice for my engine build.
Good news tonight. Found my through case bolts. Also checked the #1 and #2 main journals on the crank; 1 was 59.998mm the 2- 60mm! Ran my thumbnail over the journals and no grooves. Measured just one rod journal, it was 49.998. I haven't pulled the rest of the rods or the gears and 4-3 bearings yet, but I'm feeling pretty good about them. Seems like it was under-used or well taken care of. Not getting my hopes too high, I measured with digital calipers, good ones, but I'd feel better with a micrometer. I'll get a set soon, I should have some anyway. I'll post pics when I get the crank all torn down and cleaned so I can get some thoughts on what kinda work it will need if any.

Here are a few images of the crank. The journals are very smooth, with a slight brown coloration on the #2 main journal. Will it need polishing? If it is recommended, I'll probably do it at home. There is little wear on both rod and main journals, I have yet to remove gears and check the #4 main and little one at the nose.

See how it goes?
The OG German stuff ends up being high quality, and often in good shape.
Wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with a "Cheap Junk" build after all...

Re: Seeking advice for my engine build.
I've been avoiding this question because it seems like it should be obvious, but after trying to figure it out on Google and having some awkward listings, I have decided to ask here- What does FLAPS stand for? I want to clean my cylinder heads next.
