Making progress...

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I just finished making the rear supports for my radiator frame. Multiple angle tube copes can be a bit challenging... but it came out good enough.

It's an educated guess, for sure. But a late model WRX turbo (2.5l also, but DOHC) has a radiator that is 1/2" wider, 6" shorter, and only 1" thick. I guess that means I have six more inches at 2" thick, than a stock one. (yeah, baby... yeah.) I really don't think I will have any cooling issues. I have (2) 14" fans coming in next week that will mount below it, pulling air downward.

I had a couple of towels over it to keep dust off, and when I went to weld I needed the weld blanket.. .

Hey Skid, looks good. From what I hear  it is not so much the volume of water that is overly-important as it is cooling the flow of water, of course considering enough volume to start with. With dual fans, I would think that is plenty. If this thought process is wrong... well, I may just be screwed

what size/cfm fans are you going to use?

why dont you just move the suby into the living room where it can stay clean and happy?

I got some more work done on the baja today. I painted and mounted the radiator, drilled an installed the hi-mount rear fenders. This thing is actually starting to look like a car! Here is a 360 degree walk around of how it looks now... 8)

Skid, that thing looks like it will be insane fun to run around in. At the rate you are clippin' along, you should be ready to take it to Mexico to check out the 1000...

BTW, where did you end up getting the rubba? Was it strips, sheet, etc... and do they have 1/4"?

As the saying goes... you (your car) have definately come a long way...

OMG! I haven't looked at that pic for awhile!! What a difference, eh? I picked up some sheet rubber, 36" wide X around 14" (found the end of a roll at McFadden-Dale Hardware). It's 3/16" thick. The top radiator hose would be easy with two 45 degree silicone elbows, and a straight length of tube. Of course the bent tube connectors are more money than the straight ones...
