ugh, not again already

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Nice arms you have there. Could you not remove and relocate the vin plate.? Have done several times with mine.

That bender is an HF bar stock bender. I've owned one for about 20 years. Almost as long as I've had my Jd2 tube bender. It should have a set of dies that are way different from the dies for a tube bender.

Damn handy tool. Should be good for gates and such. Not really a tube bender, although I've encountered some dies for small tubes designed for that bender.

I was just looking for pictures of the gates I made for the Amblin Entertainment movie "Casper" a bunch of years ago. They involved 1,000 linear feet of 3/8" x 1" bar, not an inch straight, all hand bent with tools cruder than one of those benders. Guess I don't have any of my movie set pictures in digital.

Thats strange, the link I have been using for beeline this past weekend took me to some place that looked like a site that had been closed. Just tried my link again and now it works. Aren't computers great? Again, I had emailed them in 2013 with no response. I feel confident that if I had ordered a new frame from them it would still need mods to fit me and my seats. That seems to be the case with a lot of people trying to fit better than a poly seat into their frames.
Stopped by my flaps on the way home and picked up some items I need before I start on the rear of the frame.

The state police use special rivets to hold on the vin plate and I don't want to push my luck. I will just use the existing dash bar but put it where it needs to be.

Gotcha, if the Troopers put it on then on it stays. Your right, nothing we get works out of the box for what we do, that's the fun of it. What parts you got there? HMMM we want to know.

Never clean that UNI air cleaner with anything more aggressive than hand dishwashing liquid.
I tried cleaning my UNI with diliuted "purple power" or somesuch degreaser a few months ago and it essentially dissolved ~instantly.

Ended up buying an AEM Dryflow (AKA K&N oil-free synthetic washable filter)
It works at least as well as the UNI, esp with an outerwear., and it was actually cheaper.

Consider that when you need to replace the UNI, the dry media K&Ns exist in the size for Webers, and are reasonably priced.

I must have needed more time to recuperate, I swore my buggy talked to me today and said; You don't need any roll bars, while you're at it chop the windshield a foot, make a small bed and call it a rat truck.
On the more serious side, my chassis builder said we can start next weekend but then started asking questions. wtf? Time to make it mine, right? Top of the windshield [a] hoop, angle it both down and out like a bouncer, angled out like a old school sun visor, or leave it flat like almost every other frame? Braced as needed.

Care to 'splain the term "Bouncer"?

Since you're understandably quite concerned about strength of the cockpit area, I recommend against putting any fancy shapes in the roll cage such as a "visor" shape to the windshield header bar. Extra bends weaken the cage.

Add on tubes to make such shapes if you're determined to have the look. But not in the structural bars. If it were going to be a 'show only-haul it on the trailer and hand roll it off' sort of buggy, then knock yourself out. But that's not what you've been telling us.

The 4x4 crawler buggies get some pretty wild artwork roll cages. Some look downright scary weak in spite of the massive amounts of steel in them.

"Bouncers" are the radically built rock crawlers that, other than for trees, they are designed and driven so they don't give a damn what is in the way... just full steam ahead until the slope has been taken and you are in first place... if you can.

For an on the road type of rail the style of bars you have between the front and rear hoop are OK (a modified T-top style for easy in and out) but will need something for a connection between them. In a wreck they could bend at the bends and not support the front or rear hoops as well as you would want.

Off-roading it might be best to have those bars located to the outside incase you "lean" into a tree or other obstacle.

At a quick the rest looks pretty good!

Got it home today. While waiting for fuel tank and rear shocks its time to disassemble the engine and get to the builder. It will be back at his shop a couple more times for shock mounts, engine cage, ect. His seasonal business started up a couple of weeks ago and he has his own equipment to work on.

I like that (not that my opinion matters). Nice job. I like that double B pillar, have seen something like that in another buggy. Keep it up. Sweet!
