Bengels Back to Basics Mild 181 Thing build thread...

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I for one hope not :?

Build it the way you want. everyone will have an opinion on why, how, shoulda, coulda. Eff them all, hahaha (kidding people don't get butt hurt). Build your car, your way. You have built more stuff than 95% of the people on this forum. Keep posting and take comments with a grain of salt. I had people questioning some stuff I did. Some people liked it, some didn't. I got some valuable input and some not so valuable. Just sort through the comments and take the info that helps and chuckle at the others. Only you know what the end product needs/will be.

Also, it is a national forum. What someone does in mudbogs, sand dunes, pacific northwest, Michigan or Baja will all be a little different.

If you are going to post on a public forum with a lot of keyboard engineers (myself including) you gotta have thick skin.

Not a Biggie at all guys!

After the snarky little comments it helped me remember exactly why I gave up on Forums a few years back. :D My time would be better spent being productive anyway. When it's finished I will be back. At that time I will post up some before, in progress, and finished Pics for public criticism. For me it's all about enjoying the day and the project, not living up to some "Door Knobs" exceptions on a forum. I have no interest in sifting through insults regardless on how subtle they may be. Enjoy, See Ya!

I get it. I'll stop by and check it out next time I'm at PSD visiting my hobbit friend.

Very sad to hear. Mine were not meant that way and I didn't think others were either.

Good luck and don't forget us when done.

...Insults?
...Snarky comments?

You had a fellow that's been doing tech inspection on off road race cars ~since dirt was new make a mild observation that he might have done it differently.
I'd still be delighted to hear how he might have done it differently for future reference.

I pointed out it was easier to weld doing it the way you did it...

I don't see anything that could remotely even be misinterpreted as an insult, so I'm curious as to WTF.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I'm not insulted... What he said is perfectly expected on any forum and just his opinion... what ever that is worth? This was the first modification on this build and already, right out of the gate, I get a comment like "I must do a lot of work on bulldozers" because I used 3/16 flat bar for a mounting flange for a fender? If this is the response from just starting the first mod. knowing how I'm going to be build this thing in the future it just wont be worth the effort. Im not going to try to explain it to the authorities while beating back the know it all's.

As I have told many of you in your recent P.M.s... Its kinda of like breaking it off with that nagging girl friend before it goes any further. You know it is only going to get worse so why Invest your effort and time knowing in advance where it will eventually end up? Why go through it? Ive been building some pretty sweet bulldozers for some 40 years now and I really don't need my ego stroked, I don't need approval, or direction from self proclaimed Gurus, and to be honest I could really use my time more wisely than typing things like this.

Seriously lets move on and consider this thread completed. Enjoy the forum, it is a good one with tons of great information to sift through. I'm shutting down this thread notifications and will not be responding to any further P.M.'s on this topic. Thanks for understanding... Back to the bulldozers! :D
