You running a dyno or alternator don’t know if that will make any difference?
I’m running a alternator.
From what I’ve read the coil should see battery voltage at all times. I will recheck mine tomorrow to see if the coil is seeing exact battery voltage.

Just a thought there’s not a voltage controller in the stock Vw wiring that only allows the coil to see 12 volts?
Cause now I’ve wired the coil to battery I have a funny feeling that the coil will be receiving 14.7 volts at some point cause that’s what the battery sees from the alternator at a certain rpm if that makes sense?

Yeah I just checked again and its less than 9v at idle. I guess thinking about it now I should have revved it up to see how much it changed. I believe this is a 1975 engine so it should be an alternator. I don't really know how to tell the difference to be honest.

Alternator

Generator

Alternator is better, but a generator will provide charge at any revs. Alternators have to have certain speed to start making charge.

Edit: in this pic you've got an alternator...

That is just a 1 3/8" old old old header that I cut up and turned, welded, and hit with a hammer 'til it worked.

In a couple weeks you can have that one! I'll just bring it to you! I have a boat! It's not inn good shape either. I found several pin holes and its so thin now that you can barely weld it without blowing right through.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure I can even get that much boost yet.
