Hello,

I have a 412 saloon, 4 door, with manual gearbox.
Is it possible to put in a Subaru engine?
Is it done before?

Its been done in most other ACVW's...I see no reason why it would be a problem in a type 4. In fact, the saloons should have even more room. Ray

Just make sure the transmission is up to the job. Nothing ruins the day than a toasted transaxle. :(

Hey Hekkie, why do you want to change the motor from stock style?? What condition is your car? Are you doing a custom 412? What are you going to do with the old motor and tranny? The t4 tranny is very unique/getting hard to find in the states. WHat is the advantage of the suby motor over a t4 modified motor? Jake kicks butt with his t4's!! I would think any motor option can be done; I have seen v8's in beetle and other air coolers but why! I guess I never have seen the advantage of having another company motor in a VW other then a porsche or Audi.....
It just seems like alot of headaches and Mods for the outcome???
Good Luck either way you go! bill

I've seen a low mile JDM EJ20TT Suby motor for $850. They are twin turbo, something like 250+ horsepower stock? It would cost quite a bit to get that kind of performance out of a Type 4 I would think!
