So you have the top adjustment wheel on the outside and the bottom slider knobs on the inside? I think it should all be on the inside? I looked at the glovebox manual and only seen the bottom knobs on the inside but in the color promotional pamplet you can see the outside view of the seat and there isnt a wheel just the cover? Bill
p.s.I should have known the bottom was wrong since I had to change the front seat stem rods!

Yes.So you have the top adjustment wheel on the outside and the bottom slider knobs on the inside?
But maybe there is af difference between the 411 and 412, or in production year. In af few days I can give you the right answer: today I'm going to the dutch VW411/412 club 25 anniversary weekend

I tried to respond to your post yesterday. In fact, I had it all typed up, and then my service went down. I've been fighting with my ISP for quite a while now about that!
Anyhow, I have a 411 owner's manual from 1972 (Canadian version), and on page 8 it describes all of the seat adjustments, and all knobs (including recliner knob) are all 'inboard.' That '73 412 I bought from 412Jen also has all knobs to the inside. I hope this helps.
Also, Vonkr: I wanted to ask you if your rims are the 5-1/2 inch wide ones? What size tire do you run with them, and do they rub???
Thanks!
Travis

The nifty thing is, that when you work out the math.....teh 205-60-15 is the same outer cirucmferance within a couple mm...as the stock tire...but with lower, stiffer sidewalls and much wider tread. They are also easier to find than teh stock size. This is a MAJOR handling upgrade. You will need about 2 degrees more of toe in when you align the car. The offset of the stock replacement 5.5 rims (its actually a 356 Porsche wheel size and style)...is excellent. Ray

Hey Guys, ok so the controls should be on the inside inboard side or ebrake side but should the seat bottom taper(where the seat half way on one side has a cut in area) be on the inside or outside?? I'm wondering if the seat base could have been changed from the adjustment part? The taper or cutin on my seat bottoms are in the inside but the controls are outside but the cutin area seems like it is for the seat belt latches?? Bill
