Thing with wooded dash

I have collected some resawn hardwood panels that are the size to create custom hardwood dash sections. The procedure goes like this: Take any dash section. Clamp it securely to a hardwood panel. Take a router/shaper or whatever and make the panel of wood the same size as the dash section. Included in this procedure would be a process that would create all the interior holes/openings of the metal dash panel. A fine hand rubbed oil finish could be added. Edges could be fine sanded... Whatever. Anyone out there set up to create blanks? I have the metal panels and the sections of hardwood. How about a joint effort?
