Here is a thought that may help....but it is dependent on the group. There is a local high end upholstery shop...that has access to all materials. I work with the owners son. He is into VW's. He is taking over the busines. In the next week....I will be givng him a complete set of front and rear seats to make patterns for. He will be making a one-off estimate to start with. He is wondering if we might want to get a group buy together.
This won't help you for the moment....but seat cover sets could be available if we do this right.
Having various colors and various vinyl to tweed to cloth insert patterns done is no problem from set to set. Just as long as we can keep groups of patterns similar. Ray

Ok....here is what we need to decide for ourselves. The patterns...will all be the same. Those for wagons, two doors, four doors. Whatever we decide.
The things we need to be able to put down on paper....are choices like...vinyl,tweed or velour seat bottoms and backs. Insert panels if desired. Side panels (like down where the seat adjustment levers are on teh bottom section, and the adjusting knob on teh sides of the seat back)....in either vinyl, velour or tweed. Head rests of all one material, vinyl , velour, tweed.

For example....my combos would read like this: Seat bottom (the part your butt rests on): tweed (color x
Seat back (the part your back rests on) Tweed , color x
Seat bottom side panel: vinyl, color x
Seat back side inserts: vinyl, color x
Seat back/back pocket: vinyl, color x
Head rest front/back: tweed color x
Head rest side inserts: tweed, color x

A lot of the materials sew-fine sells....very original....he can get. So we may use their color list.

He first needs to look at my seats to see padding involved.

I will introduce him here not far off.
The only advantage I see of using this guy over sew-fine, is that he can deal with us. I am local to him and can look at the fit work and make corrections in the pattern. Also his place does very high end work like leather conversions for excalades...bling...custom ...street....very skilled. Lest talk about this. Ray

Hey Ray,

I have a question for your friend: does he have the equipment to duplicate the heat-seaming on the inserts of the seats (vinyl upholstery) just like the original design, or will he just be stitching the 'tubes' in?

I operate my own upholstering business, and do not have the equipment to duplicate the heat-seaming........if he can do it, I myself may also be interested in getting covers made. If not, I will do it myself. I may even opt to do a mild-custom interior with fabric inserts otherwise.

If you're talking to him......
