I'm parting out a '72 411 4 door.
Glass - Other than the front windshield, I don't have any use for the other glass. Is it worth pulling and trying to sell? Door glass, side glass, rear glass?
Sheet metal -- front panel, trunk lid, deck lid, front fenders, rear fenders are all in good shape (doors are dented). Again, are these worth pulling, storing, packaging, and shipping?
I don't want to store these parts if there is no market for them, so please advise.
Bill

Actually yes....there is a market. It is limited.
About six years ago there were roughly 185-200 411/412's registered to drive in this country.
From the interest seen on this forum, cars for sale on E-bay and various other points of reference.....I would say that number has tripled at least.
All of that without a single new source of body or suspension parts being created whatsoever.
Problem is that many people who try to sell the parts want more than the current market can bear....as far as prices go.
The problem with buying a complete....looking....411/412.....is that the cars are so much more complex than any other ACVW that in the beginning, most new owners have no idea what kind of work or cost structure they are getting into to make these cars daily drivers. Add to that....the fact that these cars many times "look" better ....sheet metal wise than they actually are due to a few little quirks of construction that the factory had.
On almost every 411/412....even teh most well preserved....in order to drive it on a regular basis.....you will need all new seals, suspension rebuild, brakes and fuel system (from age alone). This is not to mention what may be missing, broken or worn out from the interior etc.
For these reasons, most 411/412 owners ...soon realize that they cannot afford to pay large amounts for what are actually rare parts. Its very easy to end up with $6-8K into a sweet 412 before finishing the engine.
We really need an area somewhere that is a national "fence" or sales area for reasonably priced 411/412 parts.
I say strip it of panels, knick-knacks, electrical parts, glass and suspension parts. Put them out there at just above cost prices with the buyer paying shipping. Nearly a give-away for teh continuation of the breed. In the long run...what you give will come back to you from teh contacts you help. Ray

For the love of god, save the rear engine lid if it is good. I heard that a rust free one went on ebay for big $$$, but I have purchased a couple for the $45-55 range that were nearly flawless. They are virtually all rusty, except for those attached to a few pristine cars, from a desert climate, or taken off years ago and stored indoors. The ones that I got were removed from cars years ago and stored. The other parts, I would definitely save if you can possibly do it. Parts for the Type 4 sell if you offer them for a reasonable price and will ship.
