ARe 411 and 412 decklids the same?

Post by Vgonman »

Hello,

My car has been at the body shop for a long time, and I recently acquired a perfect decklid off a 411 coupe that i hoped would fit my 2 door 74 412. Let me know if it will !

Yup. Same. There are some veeeeeery small/fine differences in like early 411 lids...but nothing even a collector could differentiate. I think it was mainly in location of badges and a slight different in the metal pressing at the crease below the louvers. Its only something I have notcied because I have one from a 71 and one from a 74. Something I havn't put my finger on yet. Just ever so slightly different. Nothing to stop them from interchanging. SWEET! It is the darnest thing...I was combing the world for one of these a few months ago, and this past weekend i was in a VW machine shop in NC...the man knew i had a 412, and said he had a gift for me...a 412 clutch disk (NOS) and a 411 decklid!

Hello!
-69 models lid is little different than the others. The difference is not visible outside. The air passage ( comes towards the plastic duct when lid closed) is some 5 cm/1 inch narrower than the others. I happened to find that out this summer when there was one -70 sedan beside mine -69 and we compared engines etc.

Yes! That is a good description of some differences of the lid. However I have never seen a 69 lid. The 70/71 lid is just slightly different than all of the later ones over here...but still fits well. Ray
